'Tis the Season.... for Dribbler's League
story and pictures by Gigi Pilcher
On Saturday, December 4, two exciting games were played out at North Point
Higgins. The gym was filled with parents and grandparents who had
turned out to cheer for their boys.
In the early game, the Boys 9 to 10 year old age group, it was the
"Little Lakers" vs. the Jazz.
The Laker's coach was Jerry Scudero and the Jazz was coached by Stan
Eggner and Dan Liljegren.
Refereeing the game was Gregg Poppen. The Lakers took the game, with the
final score 48-40.
The next game was played by the 11 to 12 year old division. It was the
"Bigger" Lakers playing the Rockets.
The Lakers were coached by Terry Carlin and the Rockets by Gregg Poppen
and Rick Dale.
The game was a real cliff hanger in the last 56 seconds. The Lakers
were leading when the Rockets managed to score a basket that brought
them within two points of the Lakers. In the last 5
seconds of the game, the Rockets got a "boost" and sank a basket to tie
the game at 51-51.
The game then went into a four minute over time, with the Rockets
smoking the Lakers 57-53.
Outstanding plays were made by both teams. The Rockets' Beau Poppin
played a tough defense, Sam Graham and Sam Pitcher, measuring in at
5'11 and 6' respectively, towered over the shorter Lakers. Rockets'
Ryan Simpson played a tough offensive game.
For the Lakers, Chris Rostrom, Tom Carlin, Caleb Brown, Matt Meredith,
Kevin Clemmens, and Brandon Pilcher all made strong plays throughout
the game.
Jerry Scudero refereed the game.
