Winter Festival a Success

by Dave Lieben

ice fisherman As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, it might come true. The organizers of the Winter Festival were hoping for snow after having to cancel last year's Festival due to warmer than usual weather. They got snow. The blizzard-like conditions, however, were not enough to prevent hundreds of people from enjoying themselves at the three venues.

At Skier's Corner, several people took advantage of free use of cross-country skis and snowshoes. The sticky quality of the snow made for less than ideal skiing, but did not dampen the enthusiasm of many first-time skiers.

At Lake Harriet Hunt snowmobiles were out in force. While Ward Lake was unsuitable for ice skating, several unique snow animals were created, and a few people had success at ice fishing, although a large rainbow trout was reported to have gotten away.
