Loss of Biodiversity
Biodiversity is a variation of life, such as animals, plants, fungi, marine life, etc., at all levels of biological organization.
(en.wikipedia.org) The amount of species of plants, animals, and microorganisms all help to set up a biologically diverse universe. The enormous diversity of genes in these species and the different ecosystems on the planet, such as deserts, rainforests andl coral reefs, also contribute to biodiversity . (www.globalissues.org)

Some are scared that humans are causing massive extinctions from changes in land use, inappropriate mowing or slashing, along with other things negatively changing the environment. (environment.gov.au) This is affecting many different animal species, forests and the ecosystems that forests support, as well as marine life. The price that humans will pay in the long run associated with deteriorating ecosystems will be extremely high. (www.globalissues.org)

There are many pros and cons to biodiversity. If it were to be lost, the affect on the environment would be tramatizing. Biodiversity actually advances ecosystem productivity. Each species, large or small, all have an important role to play. This is the mixture that enables the ecosystem to have the ability to recover from a variety of disasters. Obviously, this is very useful for humankind. A larger number of species of plants supplies more of a variety of crops. In addition, a larger number of species of animals ensure that the ecosystem is naturally kept. (www.globalissues.org)
Our culture can and should step up to the plate by helping to solve the problem with the loss of biodiversity.Twenty programs have been funded by the Government in New Zealand to specifically help aquire results in the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy. The programs are divided into three categories: Land based programs, land based bio-security programs, and marine programs. (www.biodiversity.govt.nz) Programs in Austrailia have played a major role as well to keep the environment is it should.
There are many solutions that could help solve the loss of biodiversity and endangered speices. In fact, less development of natural habitats and consumption would help abstain from ecological problems. (www.globalissues.org)
