Here are some pics of the construction of my new garage. Click on the images to bring up a larger version. |
Details: The garage will be 28' wide x 48' deep. It will be divided into two separate areas, with 28' x 34' in the front as my working or "shop" area, and 28' x 14' in back as a shed or utility area. All will be 2x6 walls, 10' high. My good friend Eric, who just happens to be a contractor, will be helping me. |

This is where the garage is going. About 45 feet from the house. Doesn't look like much yet. |

After the first day of work. We rented a Bobcat, but neither one of us are really good at it. This is after about 6 hours in it, carving out this slight slope. Turns out is was a little more sloped than I first thought. |

Second day of work, forms are up. Everything's going pretty good so far. Looks like there will be some grading to do once this is done. |
I decided to go with in-floor hydronic radiant heat. This is MN, so it gets pretty cold in the winter months. There's 2" foam to insulate under the entire slab, and 1/2" pex-al-pex tubing stapled to it. There's 6 loops of tubing, 4 300' loops for the shop area, and 2 250' loops for the shed area, and you can see all the ends sticking up in the back left corner. |

Well, a week after we started and the slab is poured. Eric got a friend with a power screed (sp?) and a power trowel to help us. We used just shy of 21 yds of concrete. Everything went extremely well, and the slab looks great. This was a stressful part for me, so I couldn't be happier to get it done. 6-28-05. |

Okay, finally got the blocks done after playing phone tag with the block guy for a week..We just got a professional to do this, and it turned out pretty good. Ended up being 3 rows of blocks on the left side. Oh, and there's my helper, standing on what she thinks is her new bike/scooter race track. 7-8-05. |

Next day went pretty well too. We got all the sheathing on the walls, and the one interior wall framed, and all the headers in place. 7-12-05. |

First day of framing went pretty well I think. We got all the exterior walls up & squared and braced. 7-11-05. |

Now it's really starting to look like something. We got all the roof trusses up and braced, sub-fascias on, and a little over half of it sheathed. 7-13-05. |
Here you can see we finished up the roof sheathing, and the gable end sheathing. We also did all the hurricane clips today and removed all the bracing. Framing inspection is done, and it's too hot to roof, so we're taking the weekend off for the Car Craft Summer Nationals. Next week is supposed to be back down to mid eighties. 7-14-05. |
