As you may of known already, all the free servers have been shut down or transformed to server that you must pay but there is another way to get free anime and that is by using IRC.
IRC or Internet Relay Chat is a virtual place where a lot of people from all around the world can join to a channel to talk and to share their files. To log on into IRC you can use the basic program called mIRC or if you want to share files, in our case anime stuff, you can use programs like Polaris and many others.
Now, I am sure you might be asking yourself how can I get to that amazing virtual place. Well if you follow my instructions carefully you will be very happy.
How to use IRC:
Step 1: Download and install an IRC program (ex: mIRC or Polaris)
Step 2: Write down all of your personal information (ex: in File -> Options -> Connect you must write something in all categories: Full Name, E-Mail Address, Nickname, Alternative. You also have to go to File -> Options -> IdentD and write your nick or name in the User ID section.
Step 3: Connect to a Dalnet server in IRC by going to File -> Options -> Connect and there choose any Dalnet server and then click the "Connect to IRC Server" button. You can also do this by pressing the icon that looks like 2 diagonal yellow triangles.
Step 4: You must now register and identify yourself. In the status bar write /nickserv REGISTER password email where password and email is something that you choose (ex: If I want my nick to be Dragon and cool my password I would do /nickserv REGISTER cool [email protected] ). After you have done this you will see a message saying that you will receive an email so you must then go to your email and open what Dalnet has sent you because you must confirm your registration. Now that you're registered whenever you log on into Dalnet you must identify yourself so that only you can use your nick and to do so you must write /nickserv INDENTIFY password in the status bar. NOTE: you may not registered more then one nick or else you could be banned from dalnet.
Step 5: Go to anime channels. There are many Anime channel and to go to them you can either press the Channel folder icon that looks like a little folder with a # sign inside or you can write /join name of channel (ex: /join #Dlfiles)
Step 6: Start downloading files. Once you have entered a channel the first thing you should read is the topic so that you can know the specific rules, if any, of that channel. Then you write !list to see all of the fserves in the channel (fserves are servers that are made from other people's pcs so when you download something your downloading directly from someone's pc.) After that you must write what the trigger says so that you can enter to the fserve window. There, you use dos commands like dir, cd.., sends, gets, queues, and others. You can write help for a list of all these commands and what they do.

Lets say I want to enter the fserve above
I would write on of the 2 triggers: !DL Anime
This will take me to a new window where there I can look for what I
want and try to get it and then close the window because you don't need
it anymore. NOTE: IRC is very good to find anime but you must be willing
to leave your pc open for a lot of time because normally fservers are
always full (look at the Queues).
**If you use the basic IRC program (mIRC) you must enable the video files so that you can download them. Go to Files->Options->DCC and set it up so that it ignores everything except *.avi, *.asf, *.mpeg, etc… and it does help a lot if you but every thing to auto- (auto resume & auto accept)
Step 7: Have fun talking to people
and downloading lots and lots of files.
