| Let's Talk about New Orleans... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| It's a different kind of place down there - part Old South, part Old Europe, part Third World, part cultural mecca, part spiritual mecca, and part tourist trap. If you get bored in New Orleans, have someone check your pulse.........you may be dead. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| New Orleans is one of my favorite places to visit. It is sometimes known as "The Cresent City", because of it's location on a cresent moon curve of the Mississippi River, or "The Big Easy" because of it's reputation for the slow, care-free life style of it's residents and visitors. The world famous "French Quarter" is still considered the heart of the city, as tourism is a mainstay of the local economy. The Quarter is the place to be to soak up much of the charm and enchantment this city has to offer. If you think N.O. is just for drunken debauchery, you may be surprised. Certainly, you can get your fill of indulgence, but there's so much more... Check out my personal walking tour of the French Quarter... It includes lots of historical facts and some myth about the Vieux Carre... |

| Map of the City of New Orleans circa 1800. Back then, the French Quarter, as it is known today , was the whole city. Note the thick, jagged lines around the city. These ramparts (fortification walls) protected N.O. from attack. The ramparts were removed many years ago. The dark spot near the center of the map marks the location of the Saint Louis cathedral (pictured above). Don't bother trying to read the words... unless you speak French. French was the language of New Orleans well into the 1800's. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| New Orleans is a blast pretty much any time of the year. We especially enjoy Halloween and St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Here are some pictures of our N.O. adventures over the years. |
