32. Nathaniel Jr. Pettingill

1Unknown-(passed down and in my /posession)/, Pettengill Ancestral Chart, Unknown, #4. -When British Gen. Thomas Gage sent British regulars under Maj. John Pitcairn to Lexington and Concord, MA, Paul Revere warned the colonists. Farmers and Militiamen met the redcoats. Nathaniel marched on the Lexington Alarm April 19, 1775 as 2nd Lt. and Acting Capt. of a company from Methuen. The first shots of the American Revolution rang out here.

2Unknown-(passed down and in my /posession)/, Pettengill Ancestral Chart, #3. - Fort William Henry, at the lower end of Lake George, NY, was held by French commander-in -chief, the Marquis de Montcalm. At orders of Britain's Sir William Pitt, in August, 1757 Nathaniel marched with a group of troops from the New England colonies to the relief of the fort in Chandler's Co., Osgood's Regt. The fort was recaptured for the British.

3Unknown-(passed down and in my /posession)/, Pettengill Ancestral Chart, #2. -In 1745, during Britain's "King George II's War" with France, France held fortress at Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island,Acadia. espedition of New England troops under command of English royal governor of Massachusetts, Gov. William Shirley, supported by British ships, took fortress. Nathaniel was present at the operation at Louisbourg in October, 1745. He held a commission from Gov. Shirley as 2nd Lt. in Capt. Frye's Co., Col Waldo's Regt. Acadia was renamed by the British- Nova Scotia.

4Unknown-(passed down and in my /posession)/, Pettengill Ancestral Chart, #1. Eldest son of Nathaniel pettengill, I. Called "Yeoman" (small land owner). Husbandman (farmer) by trade. Served in the militia. Lived at Andover and Methuen, MA. Had 3 sons and 2 daughters.
