I'm a new user of internet. Am a Shumway and have done much research. Am intrigued by your information that Peter Shumway was from French Belguim. What documentation do you have? Also, the info I have indicates that Peter arrived in MA between 1660-1675. He settled in Topsfield/Boxford where all his children were born.

The information I have seems to, generally, coincide with that cited by you. What I have is Peter Shumway was born 6 Jun 1678 in Topsfield, MA; died 1750/51 in Worcester, MA; and married Mariah Smith in Topsfield, MA on February 11, 1700/01. His father, also Peter, was born April 10, 1635 in England and died ca. 1695 in Topsfield, MA.
How does this fit your info? thanks-----------

Do you have access to a copy of Asahel Adams Shumway's genealogy? It was originally printed in 1909 and then reprinted in 1972. It follows each of Peter Jr.s sons lines out to the early 1900's.
I also received copies of Peter and Frances wills in the original handwriting from the archives in MA. If interested I will email you the address.

What a pair we are...you said you were new to the Internet, and I'm new to Genealogy. Actually I'm trying to pick up the pieces of some work started back in the 1950's by a now deceased aunt of mine, so I'm always anxious to learn of any new information. Thank you for your offer of the address for the archives in MA. Also, where would one find copies of Asahel Adams Shumway's genealogy?
Our line is actually through Peter Jr.'s daughter, Hepzibah Shumway, who married my gggg-grandfather, Obediah Walker, on November 12, 1741 in Oxford, MA. As to the birthplace of Peter Sr., I know one of the ancestral files at "www.familysearch.org" (the LDS site) shows it as Poiton, Deux-Sevres, France, and shows the spelling as Pierre Chamois, with the same 10 Apr 1635 birthdate. If you haven't visited that site yet, I'd certinly suggest it. Lots of info and lots of fun.-----------------------
