How to express agape
First let us define agape:
agape - A decision of the will to do what is best for the one who is being loved. This Greek
word is rarely used in other Greek writings and used in a colorless way. The New Testament
gives agape a wonderful new meaning. This is the word used as love in John 3:16 and 1
Corinthians 13. In 1 Corinthians 13, it says that "love bears all things." The Greek word for bear
can also mean "cover," as in agape throwing a cover of silence over the faults of others. Agape
does involve a desire, but doesn't depend of affection received from another in order to exist. I
can even agape my enemies, I can desire what is best for them. Agape is an act of the will. I
truly agape people, and I will do what is best for them, even if they had no love for me.
God showed grace (unmerited agape) for the world, even
though the world did not even like God.
Faith is understanding his grace (unmerited agape) and
trusting God's agape and letting it well-spring in our heart
and mind...if God agape me, then I must agape God and His
creation. Faith expresses itself the same way it is grasped, it
is expressed by agape. We agape because God agape us
first (1 John 4:10).
God overflows us with agape by his grace...God's
agape then spill overs in our lives and we let it flow back to
God and to our neighbors. Whoever does not agape does
not know God or grace, for God is agape (1 John 4:8)
To achieve agape, learn about grace....it's the heart of the
gospel.
