CRESTFALLEN: ASCENTION ------------------------- REVIEW by Dan Laurikietis Innovation. It's a thing rarely seen in RPG 95 games. Most users become content with the technical limitations of the program and try instead to wow us with complex plots and custom GFX, even the odd cut scene here and there. Many are blissfully unaware that a good idea can cost nothing. Fobo, creator of CFA (who has collaborated with CF 1 and 2 creator Lun) has created an innovative and thoroughly original RPG with hardly any technical trickery. What is this great new idea? Simply... freedom! CFA offers a free roaming RPG experience closer to games like Morrowind than any ever made with RPG 95. The protagonist Munny and his accomplice Kris are introduced as well as a very basic premise for the mission of the game but how closely or loosely that premise is followed is entirely up to the player. Munny and Kris can complete their mission in 20 mins and finish the game or abandon it completely at the player's whim. New party members can be recruited or turned into bitter enemies. In short Fobo shows the player the Crestfallen world and drops the player in to see how they react. The hallmarks of the Crestfallen series are still here, excellent plot and characterisation as well as engaging gameplay and even a few cast members from the first 2 games are back to please fans of the series. CFA does usher in some changes too. Random battles have been scrapped and enemies now skulk around as NPCs. If you want to further your EXP you can fight, if you'd rather not then they are easy enough to avoid! Their difficulty to beat can also be determined by their colour so you have a good idea whether you'll win or lose before combat. This is a bold addition to a classic series and is strongly reccommended. Rock on Fobo & Lun! DAN SEZ- ***** (5/5)
