BALDY'S BIG DAY ---------------- REVIEW by Dan Laurikietis While we all love RPGs (we wouldn't be using and RPG maker if we didn't) we all have to admit that what were once the time honoured traditions of the genre have become something of a cliche. This is particularly true when we take into account the limitations of our beloved RPG making programs. While most peopel who use RPG 95 or 2000 try to inject their own spin into the framework of the RPG Okelvin's game, Baldy's Big Day prefers to rip them to shreds. This is RPG parody at its very finest! Not only does BBD snigger over the cliches of the RPG genre it contains plenty of in- jokes that RPG 95 users will identify with. While the game demonstrates a sound knowledge of RPG95 and its usage as well as some very clever and original touches (the Cg movie sequences are particularly fun) it's the humour that makes this game great. The humour keeps us coming back for more and makes us enjoy tasks and events that in most RPGs can be considered a chore. The game is not perfect, but it is damn close. The only criticism is the slow paced opening stages of the game, and you don't get a feel that Okelvin becomes really confident with his use of RPG 95 until well into the game. However the real belly laughs and innovations come thick and fast in the second act and upon completing the game I was genuinely sorry it was all over. Definately a must for download!!
