A WHITE CHRISTMAS IN ROMANIA

Dear Friends,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! We trust and pray that you all had a blessed year in 2001 and a great Christmas and New Years.  It has been a truly amazing and blessed year.  On behalf of all of the Mures Valley Mission team in Romania and the Brocks we just want to say thank you so much for allowing the Lord to use you through your prayers, your support of money and material, your encouragement to make this the best year we have ever had.  I especially want to thank all those who have followed the Macedonian call, volunteering to go to Romania with us to serve the Lord by serving those dear people.

Let me share some statistics with you just to give you an idea of the scope of the work in the Mures Valley of Romania:

We held a total of 1136 meetings including those held when Americans were visiting. The total attendance for those meetings for the year was 55,790.  Of those in attendance 35% or 19580 were lost.  There were 91 saved and we have baptized 30 this year. There were 4515 visits to families, 243 individuals given medical care and financial help was given to 183 families. We were privileged to host 300 children’s meetings with a total attendance for 2001 of 8,778 kids! Also we had 8 women’s meetings with 216 ladies attending.  One of the best statistics is that the Gospel was presented 32,940 times to non-believers.

We led four (4) trips to Romania this year. All were with great success and all without any incidents of any type during the travel. We had one connecting flight delayed in Paris but that is to be expected at that particular airport. We traveled two (2) times after the September 11 attack and we felt safe both trips with tightened security.

At the summer camp this year we ministered to 320 kids. At the end of the camp there were nearly 50 decisions made for Christ. The camp is the most important event that we sponsor each year. This year we intend to host 400 kids. To do this we will make some needed changes in the camp structure and organization. We need two things to accomplish this. First we need about 45 volunteers to go to lead groups of children and to provide support for the different programs at the camp. Secondly we need to meet a budget of  $15,000 to provide, food transportation, materials, interpreters, the field trip to the park and McDonalds and even some Romania students to help teach these kids. God has always provided above and beyond what we have needed and we know that He will provide again through His people.  Please just pray, pray, pray for the camp that we can deeply touch the lives of these kids and their families.

The trip in February of 2001 was highlighted by the official opening of the church at Capalnas. We praise God that this phase in the work is finished. He truly blessed to provide all that was needed to complete this great and needful task.  It was a very great thanksgiving service to God for all He has done.

This year will be our busiest year in construction.  In the last 60 days we have received sufficient funds to buy or build four (4) church buildings in villages where they are greatly needed.  There is already some great news in regards to this.

We had originally anticipated building a building in the village of Grosi. I learned yesterday that Crinel was able to purchase a very large house in the village with a barn, and a large piece of property. For the same cost as building, we have more property, a building of greater capacity, and it will be furnished with all the needed things to be a church. And…..instead of it opening in the fall of this year it will be officially opened on March 1 of this year!

We have plans to build the other two (2) buildings this summer after completing the church under construction in Cuias. We also have received some funds for the youth center and expect the Lord will give the remainder to finish that this year. In the future we plan to add to that structure in order to start a Christian school in Capalnas.  Wow!! Never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined God answering our prayers in such a way.  I want to give special thanks to Terry Tripp of Rising Fawn for all his help in letting people know about these needs.

Let me just take a moment to share with you our financial situation in the mission. My purpose is to inform you for accountability so that you all can be assured we are doing what we want. If you need to confer with people who have gone to Romania to be further assured that we are doing all we can I will be glad to get you in touch with them  In 2001 we averaged contributions of  $2498.00 per month, not including designated construction contributions. This also does not include trip funds as they are designated to the expense of the particular trip.  Out of that $2498.00 we pay out $1300 per month payroll and gas expense in Romania. My family receives $600 to $800 per month depending on the mission needs that month.  The balance of that goes to pay communication costs, Food for Witness program, money designated for the children and to offset the cost of sponsoring the soccer team in Capalnas.  Our goal is for $4500 total monthly contributions. This would provide what my family needs as well as meet all the mission expenses that are not being met now. Pray for this need. God has graciously met all our needs and we know that according to His promise He will continue to do so. Of course this does not even begin to talk about the plans for more Romania personnel, and starting a Christian school.

Sounds like a lot to ask? Not if you are doing what you know God wants you to do.  Nothing will ever wipe the picture of the people of Romania or their need of Christ from our eyes. Pray for us according to the command of God and the love in your hearts. Pray for us.  We look forward to greater things to come. I look forward to seeing you at your churches and seeing many of you on the field with us in Romania.

Our mailing list is now on computer and we have been given a gift of preprinted envelopes so you will be hearing from us much more this year with the stories of the great things God is doing.

Yours in Christ,
