| Kill Bill-Volume 1 Review: Review Submitted: October 21,2003 by dl4ndow Please do not confuse this review as an overview of the movie. If you want that, you can visit the Press Notes on the Official Site. This is a review of my opinion on what I think and feel about the movie. Kill Bill is the fourth movie by Quinten Tarantino. His other works have included Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown. Tarantino is the ultimate fan of films. His knowledge seems to be infinite ranging from the big blockbuster to the campy "B" movies and even the silent films of old. As in his past works, he uses this knowledge to pay homage to his treasures of old. Kill Bill is a movie that has been divided into two. Therefore, this movie is Kill Bill- Volume 1 and the second part, Kill Bill- Volume 2, will be released in February 2004. Kill Bill is an epic story about one woman's quest for justice. Having been betrayed and left for dead by her former boss/lover "Bill" (played by David Carradine), and "co-workers" (played by Vivica A. Fox, Lucy Lui, Daryl Hannah, and Michael Madsen), "The Bride" (played by Uma Thurman) seeks revenge. To aid her in this quest for vengence, "The Bride" enlists the famed Swordsmith "Hattori Honzo" (played by Sonny Chiba). These are the basic characters of this film. Tarantino tells this story in his trademark non-linear style. What the film lacks in dialogue, it more than makes up for in action. Tarantino's influences in this film comes from all walks of life. From the campy kung-fu movies and spaghetti westerns of the 70's, to the pop culture icons we've come to know and love, and even to the global phenomenon that Japaneese Animation (affectionately known as Anime) is turning into, all are respected in this Tarentino work. In my overall opinion, I found this movie to be very enjoyable. Granted it probably won't win any Oscars for it's writing but the cultural influences that is represented along with it's action is superb. This isn't a movie for children but I recommend it for all adults. I give it a YAY! |
