Day Two after the Surgery - Friday January 7th
Day two got off to an early start with Katie moaning at 3:00am
awakening both parents. Mom fell back to sleep a short time later as Dad took over.
Doctors arrived at 6:30am to remove the first bandage. We are told everything looks great.
Mom and Dad had their first look at Katies incision. Katie being very tired and in
and out of sleep today. She is breathing room air and her O2 saturation was 98 to 100.
Chest Physio was in twice and her chest sounded clear although the lower lobes were faint
which apparently is normal. The monitors were still attached for both pulse rate and
respirations. The O2 sats were also being monitored throughout the day. Her temperature
was normal in the morning and rose to 37.7 in the afternoon. We were still giving Tylenol
every four hours and there was no change to the amount of morphine being given.
We tried giving her 200mls of Lytren over 4 hours, however this just
made her moan. The intestines were still asleep, a side effect of the anesthesia. Dad
helped with position changes this day and Mom looked after face and mouth care as we
waited for signs that her bowels were working. Position changes were easier today and
Katie showed little displeasure from being turned. The fluid retention was noticeably
down.
