I installed mine on the driver's side, as that is where the wiring harness enters the tailgate. I put it in the thin plastic shell that lines the fender. This material is very soft...once I had a basic opening drawn out, a couple of small pilot holes allowed me to easily carve out a nice rectangle with a razor knife.
The switch can be the smallest, lightest available. The industry designation is (on)-off-(on), The parenthesis indicate momentary on. It will have three connections...a common and two other tabs for "up" and "down".
I used "trailer harness" connectors that let you tap the existing wire without cutting it. Get the ones that are rated for #14-#18 on both sides. You'll need three of those as well three females connectors (red sized for #14-#18) to connect to the switch. The three lengths of wire need only be a light guage, each about 18-24 inches in length.
You'll find it easier if you remove the jack, resevoir and carrier...but its not vital. Gently cut the layers binding the wiring harness a good distance above the plastic connector. Locate the light guage blue/black blue/white and solid blue.
Do not mistakenly use the heavy guage conductors, some have the same markings.
The solid blue is the common, blue/black is up and blue/white is down.
This switch will operate the
window without the key being "ON".
