Favorite Jam Bands

This page is dedicated to musicians who don't always follow the mainstream road to musical success. These musicians go out to play more than to get a platinum record from one hit single.

Neutronic Sod - I refuse to miss one of their gigs. Yes, they are that good. A funk explosion with powerful vocals to support their hard-driving blend of rock, da funk and superooze.

This is me at one of my parties. Dave Muriello of Neutronic Sod can be seen playing in the background

Keller Williams - This musical nomad will be a favorite for anyone who has ever gone on a road trip. His lyrics come from day to day living that just happens to be in a (Blaze)Winnebago travelling from state-to-state, city-to-city. If I could be a musician, I'd be Keller Williams. Or Jim Morrision but he's dead. Moving on...

The String Cheese Incident - Jam bands,  in it for the free-form but somehow structured jam sessions, can fit into bluesy, jazzy, funky and other types of subgroups. I prefer to see the regional characteristics of bands. For example, SCI is definitely a "Colorado Jam Band". One listen and I think you'll hear it as well.

Leftover Salmon - Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass. If that doesn't describe it, I don't know what will. 1/2 of this band and 1/2 of String Cheese Incident started out together as String Cheese Salmon or Leftover String Cheese. Something like that. Then split up and became these 2 bands. Lotsa fun

Widespread Panic - Every summer I spend way too much on airfare to see these guys play the greatest outdoor venue in the US - Red Rocks Ampitheater in Morrison, Colorado. When I come home broke from living it up in Boulder I don't get upset, rather I get back to work getting ready to save up for next summer.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - Most of the venues these guys play are sit down kinda places. But this is NOT a sit down band. You cannot help but groove to Bela's incredible banjo playing and possibly the best bass player in the business - Victor Wooten. Don't forget Future Man. Think a stranger Dude of Life - if possible.

God Street Wine - This local favorite is now defunct but really knew how to make cheesy songs about relationships fit into party music mixes. These guys were highly underrated by critics and even music fans. Always enjoyed this band.
