| Election - Matthew Broderick again. This time an older and fatter version but on the other side of the teacher's desk. Vote for Flick or feel the damage it will cause you. Sad and funny all wrapped in one. Good side characters as well. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Beverly Hills Cop - The original. This movie really put Eddie on the map. That trademark laugh gave people some comic relief compared to Ahnold's "I'll be back". Judge Reinhold is a great 'sidekick'. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Fast Times at Ridgemont High - I really don't have to say anything about this one - but I will. Led Zeppelin side 4 described by Dimone, Phoebe Cates (carrots?), Spicoli the man with a cameo by future drug ring leader in future movies - Eric Stoltz, the creepy science teacher and all things Fast Times. A true classic. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| American Pie - I guess these kids are the year 2000's version of the Brat Pack. This movie (the unrated version) is classic in everyway - characters, the love story, the helpless wonder, the pain in the ass jock, and everything else. It even pays a tribute to some of the original Brat Pack films with the music chosen at certain parts. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Cruel Intentions - This movie's ending is like a Mack truck running into your life. Does that make sense? Maybe not but see this film to understand where I am trying to get to. SM Gellar you have to love to hate but with those looks along with the bitchy character's attitude, hate to love. Wow, great movie. Bittersweet Symphony at the end of the film is perfect. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The Bad News Bears - This movie franchise was great. 2 different coaches, more or less the same team/players and overall a bad ass attitude from little kids. A great series of flicks. The "Let them Play" chant started by Reggie Jackson brings on a really emphatic feel which leads up to the greatest baseball play ever - the first baseman/pitcher ball swap. One thing though, the Bears should never have gone to Japan and Tatum O'Neill should never have married John McEnroe. But that is another story. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Rocky Horror Picture Show - Again, no order whatsoever, but this movie, er, Horror Show is what made cult classics, cult classics. Riff Raff, Magenta, Brad and Janet, Columbia and the Transylvanians only make up a part of the movie. The real sport of the film are the people who go see it in the theater. If you haven't - do it and enjoy the freedom that the Time Warp gives you. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - Steve Martin's greatest movie - ok, that is arguable but I will stick by it. This movie of lying, cheating and blatant attempts at fooling the wealthy is amazing. The best line is at the end of the movie when Janet tells them how much she made last year but their swindell was the most fun - although the whole Ruprecht "May I go to the bathroom" scene is a close second. This movie will make you want to run around and scream Ohh Klahoma, Oklahoma, etc | |||||||||||||||||||||
| The Wizard of Oz - Can you say juxtaposition - whatever, this film is as classic as it gets. My parents would go away for a conference the same time each year and it was always at the same time this movie would be on the tube. Get 2 birds with one stone once a year. Excellent. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Beetlejuice - Michael Keaton plays some interesting characters in his films - but none quite as crazy as this - and no, Multiplicity certainly does not count. Some great lines in this flick and an even eerier setting courtesy of Mr. Burton. Another great supporting role by Mr. Rooney himself, Jeffrey Jones as well as a budding Winona Ryder. The story is simple, the music like a death induced ho-down and the characters puzzling but yet again, simple. A great story for when you feel down and out but actually want to be made a bit cheery. | |||||||||||||||||||||
| A Clockwork Orange - Mr. Control Freak Kubrick really put a lot into this film. A lot of what I have no idea. But in truth, this film is a scary look into the eyes of humanity - both the "good" and the "bad". My roommate freshman year was a weird kid and used to yell out the line "Come with Uncle...Devils Trumpets and Angel Trombones...and you're invited" a lot. Poor dear Alex and his dreadful droogs. Some classic cinematography and well scouted locations add to the greatness of this film. I have seen some great restaurants that really remind me of HOME and the Korova Bar lately. Creepy but welcoming places all at the same time. | |||||||||||||||||||||
