Under Construction - keep checking back

80s/Glam Rock

Duran Duran - I will take any heat given to me about this band. These guys are awesome. They may have been a little fey and dressed a little goofey - but so did you back then. These guys were gods to me - all the women, parties and exotic locations to film their videos. Ok, so they are still gods to me. Seven and the Ragged Tiger is a must have. Fun for parties - especially if you attend SUNY Purchase

The Squeeze - These guys, despite their lack of super popularity are loved by almost everyone. Really cheesy songs like Pulling Mussels should forever be a part of 80s compilations and theme parties - or just hanging out at the G. Their one big album is virtually flawless.

The Go-Gos - As Cindy and Snider know - this is a great band to listen to on the drive down to the shore. Vacation? That's all I ever want - and these gals know how to get you ready for one

The Cure - Robert Smith is easily one of the most recognizable members of the glam rock elite. Glam might be a misnomer with this band - they brought Goth to life for me and I suppose in some way paved the road for my fascination with Mazzy Star

Til Tuesday - Voices Carry huh? I think this band as well as Berlin helped mold my fascination with female lead singers.

Thomas Dolby - Ask any kid born in 1978 or later and I promise you they have no idea who this uy is. Sing "She Blinded me with Science" and maybe half will recognize it. Ah, the 80s.

Dire Straits - Easily one of the most underrated bands of all time. They only had 3 hits or so, but these guys helped make MTV big by changing the format of videos. Ok, they were kinda creepy and the vocals were eh, but the guitar play is amazing.

Thompson Twins - These guys were just a bit out there but they had some cool tunes back then. Now...well, I won't jump to get a ticket if a reunion tour happens.

A-Ha - Another band that changed music videos forever. Kind of a one hit wonder, but what a great song and pretty darn cool video with Take on me. Does that title make any sense?

Madonna - When Madonna was new. Don't get me wrong, Madonna, the chameleon that she is, has changed her style and sound more times than one can count. Her style in the 80s though ruled because it was all new and untattered. Desperately Seeking Susan anyone? People changed hair and clothes because of her, but then again they did the same for Dorothy Hamill and Pat Benetar.

MJ- This guy. Oh boy. Whatever happened to him? He was his best when he was black. I think I understand his statement but no. The Jack is a whack now. Let's remember him as the guy in the Jackson 5 and stuff from Thriller. What an album cover. Ha!

Pat Benatar - Ok, have to include her now. Plus she is the aunt of my old Smuggler's Notch friend - Deirdre and Dwayne Cantelmo. We are Young

The Police - Easily a candidate for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Every album was solid and had the major support role of Sting who was smart and left to do his own thing after awhile. Great videos too. Remember Wrapped around my finger"?

Yes - These guys remind me of soccer games. Pat always listened to these guys and was forced to know Roundabout at 12 years of age. Arguably the best cover art for albums

Culture Club - Ok, I'll take the heat on this one too. This was quintessential 80s and Glam. If you ever have to teach someone (heck a 2nd grader could figure it out) what it looks like to be, um..flagrant about your sexuality - give him any video of this band - or that of George Michael/Wham. To teach them confusion show them GM's Freedom video. Oh man what a video.

The Bangles - Suzanna Hoffs has the best eye stare in all of music video history. With the exception of one other video that came out of the 90s via Chris Isaac (Helena Christensen)

The Eurythmics - Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Don't really need to say much more. Oh.. synthesizer.and cows and flame red hair.

Talking Heads - That fine line of genius and lunatic is once again faded with David Byrne and his crew. These guys are really odd but the music and the lyrics and the delivery!!! Cities?!?!

Run DMC - Yup - the guys that started it all - well at least for the Beastie Boys. I drove my parents crazy listening to that "confounded rap music". That was half the fun.

Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer! Shock the monkey. This guy new how to sing a catchy tune and accompany it with strange videos that made you question what this guy did in the 70s.
