Writers Lament
by Shannon Donnelly

Straining hard to find something to write
Wishing I could make just one more line
Finding the right words
For the wrong line

Assignment due tomorrow
Another procrastinatior's lament
Waiting so long
Wishing i had started last week

Sitting over the keyboard
Screen glowing on my face
Typing words
The just don't fit

Suddenly, an inspiration strikes
An idea greater than any other
And I type the words
Just Right
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
by Shannon Donnelly

The Day the Twin Towers Fell
The nation stood in shock
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
'Twas only ten o'clock
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
Hijacked planes were the culprit
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
We will not soon forget
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
The pentagon too, was attacked
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
Four planes were hijacked
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
Bombs and crashes throughout the day
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
Whoever caused this must pay
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
Who's the mastermind of this heinous deed?
Who has such disregard for human life?
What is to happen now?
Will we find who commited this crime?
The day the innocence died,
The day the New York Skyline changed forever,
The Day the Twin Towers Fell
A Few Haiku
by Shannon Donnelly

Fish
Swimming in the tank,
Silently in the water
Dreaming of the sea

Whale

Whale, building up speed
Swimming quickly to the top
She touches the sky

Whale II
Back in the water
Swimming down to the bottom
In the peaceful sea

Rain
Falling softly down
The rain falling to the ground
Lands on the pavement

Frog
There, on a lilly
Sits a little frog, waiting
For a little fly

Cheetah
Sitting in the grass
Mother and children waiting
For a tasty snack
E.A.Poe in School
by Shannon Donnelly

Once upon a school day dreary, while i ponderd weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volumes of forgottem work.
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As if someone gentely rapping, rapping on my desk galore,
"T'is some teacher," I muttered, "Tapping on my desk galore,--
                               Only this and nothing more.

Ah, distinctly i remember, it was in the bleak September,
As each seperate dying Summer wrought it's ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly i wished the bell; -- while pondering some strange smell
From my work i sought surcease of sorrow -- sorrow for the lost Summer--
For the rare and radient season who the angels named Summer-
                                Nameless here evermore

Deep into the darkness peering, long i stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, doing work no kid ever dared do before;
But the winter was soon broken, and the darkness life unspoken
And there was one word spoken was the shouted word, "Graduation!"
This we shouted and others shouted back the word, "Graduation!"-
                                To return here, Nevermore

Architeuthis
By Shannon Donnelly

The deepese waters are it's home,
In the darkness he does roam.
Taking on a whale or submarine,
By humans he is rarely seen.
Moving through with jet propulsion,
Ten long arms to guide it's motion.
Two arms are different from the other,
Longer, thinner, tipped with suckers.
Fish and whales make up their meal,
Their beak like mouth could cut through steel.
Their eyes are 18" across,
For an equal we are at a loss.
These carniverous mollusks are legendary,
They are truly extra ordinary.
In the quiet, deep, dark sea
We should just let them be,
