| RICHARD CORY Whenever Richard Cory went downtown, We people on the pavement looked at him. He was a gentleman from sole to crown, Clean favord, and imperially slim. And he was always quietly arrayed. And he was always human when he talked; But he still flutterd pulses when he said, Good Morning." and he glitterd when he walked. And he was rich-yes, richer than a king, And admirablyschooled in every grace; In fine, we thought that he was everything, To make us wish that we were in his place. So on we worked, and waited for the light, And went without the meat, and cursed the bread; And Richard Cory, one calm, summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head -By Edward Arlington |

| Sonnet 130 My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun, Coral is far more red than her lips' red. If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun, If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her her head. I have seen roses damasked, red and white, But no such rose I see in her cheeks. And in some perfumes is there more delight than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know, That music hath a a far more pleasing sound. I grant I never saw a goddess go, My mistress, when she walks, she treads on the ground. And yet, by Heaven, I think my love is rare As any she belied with false compare. -By Willie Shakesphere |
