Matthew's Story
Matthew was born at Unity Hospital.  He weighed 8lbs 5oz, was 21 1/2 inches long and his head measured 13 1/2 inches.  He was a big boy.  Born on November 15, 2001 at 1:59pm by emergency c-section, he never got to take his first breath.  Dylan and I had just gotten the nursery set up the night before and were finally ready for his anticipated arrival on the 19th.  That Thursday I was sitting in a meeting and realized that I couldn't remember the last time I felt Matthew move.  After trying to get him to kick, I called the doctor and they said to go to labor and delivery right away.  When I got to the hospital, the nurse could not locate his heartbeat.  The doctor checked with an ultrasound and there seemed to be something pulsing.  He ordered a crash c-section and less than 10 minutes later my perfect baby was born.  The closest we've come to an explanation is the possibility that a clot on his umbilical cord was responsible for his death during the night before.
The nurses at the hospital were wonderful.  They did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible.  The day after his birth, one of the pastor's from our church performed a blessing and two weeks later we held a memorial for him.  Through him we have learned pure joy, love, heartache and peace.  He taught us the true miracle that is life and he will live forever in our hearts.
