StorageTek Setup

Setting up the StorageTek on Windows NT

in Seven (7) Easy Steps

First, you have to install the Software.

No Disks are necessary for the two (2) Service Programs.
All of the Software is stored on \\RSCITSERVER1\E$ in the \ADMIN\CLARIION Directory.

There are two (2) subdirectories: Agent and ArrayGde.
Agent contains the Clariion Agent and ONC Portmap Drivers.
ArrayGde contains the Array Manager Software (if desired).
(Both contain 'ReadMe.Txt' Files.)

There are two (2) floppy disks required for the Drivers:
The Clariion Novell / Windows NT floppy disk and
The BusLogic EISA Configuration floppy disk.

(1)
Install the Clariion Agent.
From the Agent subdirectory, run 'Install.Exe'.
Answer either 'Yes' or 'Exit' to All Windows.
When asked to 'Save', save the Clariion Configuration File as 'CLARIION.CFG'.
When the program is installed, copy the file: 'CLARIION.CFG' from the Agent subdirectory
to the newly installed CLARIION Directory.
Then, edit the file (using notepad) changing 'bcwdserver1' from these two lines:
device 0:0:1 CLAR@bcwdserver1-0SP 'CLARiiON 0'
device 1:0:0 CLAR@bcwdserver1-1SP 'CLARiiON 1'
into the new Server Name.

(2)
Install the Array Manager (if desired).
From the ArrayGde subdirectory, run 'Setup.Exe'.
Answer either 'Yes' or 'Exit' to All Windows.
When the program is installed, copy the file: 'HOST.CLR' from the ArrayGde subdirectory
to the newly installed ARRAYMGR Directory.
Finally, open the control panel, system and add the
variable: RAID_ARRAY_HOSTS, value: C:\ARRAYMGR\HOST.CLR.

(3)
Install the Windows NT SCSI Driver for the BusLogic EISA cards.
(From the BusLogic subdirectory or Using the Clariion Novell / Windows NT floppy disk.)
On Windows NT 3.51, Choose Windows NT Setup from the Main Group and Choose Options - Add/Remove SCSI Adapters.
On Windows NT 4.0, Choose SCSI from the Control Panel and Choose Add.
From the List, choose Other - Have Disk, then type in 'A:\WINNT' and press enter.
There will be only one choice - the BusLogic Driver.
Select it.

(4)
Turn the computer off.
There is one Jumper on the BusLogic EISA Cards for 'Floppy Enable'.
Make sure that the Jumper is removed from both cards.
Physically put the two BusLogic EISA Cards into the computer.
Choose two open slots and screw in the two cards.
Attach the two SCSI-II cables to the EISA Cards.

(5)
Run the EISA Configuration Utility.
Put in the EISA ver 7.0 floppy in the floppy drive.
(Absolutely Do Not use the EISA ver 6.x Utility or you will lose the Windows NT Registry and Configuration Files.)
Turn the computer on and press enter on the Blue Startup Screen.
Choose 'Configure'.
The EISA Utility will read all of the current '.cfg' files from the EISA Disk.
The BusLogic '.cfg' files are new, so the Utility will prompt you to put in your BusLogic Configuration Disk.
(Because there is limited room on the EISA Configuration Disk,
you will have to change disks a total of eight times - four for each of the two cards.)
Choose 'Configure Cards'.
Just in Case - make sure that the 'Operating System' says 'Windows NT'.
Move down to the BusLogic Cards.
If there are two cards, you have to change only one setting:
Both cards default to 'DMA 5'.
Change the Second card to 'DMA 6' by cursoring down to it,
pressing enter to bring up a list and cursoring down to '6'.
Finally, press 'F-10' to save, then choose Save Configuration Settings.

(6)
As the computer Reboots, you will be prompted to Press Ctrl-B to enter Setup.
Press (and hold) Control-B.
Arrow down to 'Advanced Options' and press enter.
Press enter to make 'Bootable' say 'No'.
Press escape and save.
Arrow up to 'Select Adapter' and press enter.
Arrow to the second card and repeat above.
Press escape to exit program and save.
The program says 'Press Any Key to Reboot', but you have to press Reset.
(Note: although you can enter this 'AutoSCSI' from the EISA Configuration Utility
in Step 5 above, if you do so, you will lock up the computer.)

(7)
Tell Windows NT about the new drives and format them for use.
From the 'Administrative Tools' Group, Choose 'Disk Administrator'.
Click on a new, empty partition.
The empty partition should have a Box drawn around it.
Choose File-Create and type in your desired size.
Choose File-Commit Changes Now.
Then choose Tools-Format to format the drive.
