Hello and Welcome To My Home Page

My name is Doug Smith, I am located in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada and am a member of the Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village Museum and Sukanen Museum Fire Collections Group.

After taking a SCUBA diving course in 1989 I found I was quite interested in the commercial gear that was used as well as its history. I began collecting the suits and masks. I was later given a military gas mask which started me into collecting the military masks and suits. Again, one thing led to another and fire suits also became part of my collection. In 2001 a group of us from the museum decided to purchase a fire truck and began to work on making a fire hall for the museum. As several of the members collected different aspects of fire related items (eg: extinguishers, patches, historical data and suits) we were well prepared to create displays. Our displays have been growing every since.

I have decided to create this web page to show off my entire collection and the related items at the museum as only the Fire items, and then only a small part of them, can be displayed at any given time at the museum. I would also ask that if anyone has related items that they would like to donate to my collection, or to the museum, or sell at a reasonable cost (sorry but I have a very limited income.) they contact me at [email protected]. I generally check my mail every Wednesday.

You will notice that I have indicated below the pictures whether the item is my collection or the museums or sometimes both as I do have some of the same items that have been donated to the museum.

On Sept. 11, 2005 we will be officially opening the museums fire hall which will give us a more permanent home for the museums displays and a better place to display a selection of our own collections.
