KABBAZ AT THE HOT FLASH OF AMERICA, Demetrie Kabbazs first showing in 1972 at the Upper Market Street Gallery was an event for our City when Kabbaz presented his dedication to Marilyn Monroe with a host of paintings of her in various dream periods of her life. (Some are seen at La Cucaracha and Years Ahead Hair Salon on Polk.) Kabbaz now presents his newest art works at HOT FLASH OF AMERICA 2351 Market St., S. F., entitled HERO SANDWICH, a showing dedicated to the male celebrity of the hero variety.

The program includes Fred Astaire, Reel Dancer on Popcorn Box; Johnny Weismuller: Nureyev jeteing in Time & Space; leadership for the 60s featuring John Kennedy as the Cracker Jack Man; and homages to Joe Dallesandro, Jimi Hendrix. Brando, David Bowie and Jim Morrison.

In my opinion the talent shows through in Kabbazs portrait of James Dean and the exquisite coloring and feeling of his work dedicated to Valentino (bought opening night by film maker Kenneth Anger). In fact the use of color in these 18 paintings are much more vivid than the MM ones.

Kabbaz has kept his style apparent and perfected it since the Monroe exhibit. He has captured the person he is painting by emphasizing the individuals eyes, and finding the mystique that made them. This exciting show continues at HOT FLASH AMERICA until December 4th.

For those of you who havent been to HOT FLASH, now is the time to drop in and experience this gallery/store! salon. It is unique to say the least. Besides being a gallery and featuring new artists every month, it is filled with items for everyday buying.
