AQONWF 1. Just as we turn into animals...Life is short. Shows survival of the fitest. Were all like animals so we compete and fight against each other to survuve and get what we want. 2. There are other rooms adjoining... yet in spide of all, i feel afraid. It is ironic because they're soldiers and they are usually packed on with all their gear and weapons. When they enter the house the strip nude and become defenseless. This passage is symbolic because it shows that they are all still young helpless men. The auther shows this to represent of what is taken away from the soldiers which there self confidence of being an average human other than a soldier. 3. In my room behind the table stands a brown leather sofa... Quierly i go out of the room. That he wants to be alone with his own mind and that he wants to go back home and stay there instead of going back to the war. He wants to stay there instead of going back to the war. He wants to stay in a safe place where he grew up. Soldiers are suppose to act like men but Paul want to stay home which gives him the immaturity of a boy. 4. We have dropped in for a good job... so we zealously set to work creating an idyllan idyll of eating and sleeping of course. The soldiers can show no feeling. He subtly describves how soldiers have to be stoic and show no emotion or feelings. They're there for a reason and that reason is to fight for their country. 5. In the evening we are hauled onto the chopping block... He lies in front of it as trhough he wants to look out for the last time. Kraup shows self control and how strong a soldier can be. He doesnt take the chloroform but instead endures the pain. He uses self control to leap himself together as he figures a soldier must have the strength to control himself under any circumstances. Baumer is also emotinally strong to watch. 6. Two fellows die of tetanus... A hospital shows what war is. This passage shows irony through tragedies of war and because a hospital is suppose to take away pain but they still suffer from being worked on to getting better with no anestetics being used.
