| In 1966, Brian Wilson, in the spirit of competition, set out to record an album that would rival the Beatles' Rubber Soul. With Pet Sounds, Brian evolved beyond the surfing ditties that had already stereotyped The Beach Boys. Collaborating with acquaintance Tony Asher, who would provide the lyrics, Brian sought to express deeper, more introspective emotions, such as love, the pain of growing up, loneliness, and sorrow. After finishing the album, he went back into the studio, and completed a song that he had set aside from the Pet Sounds sessions. This song became "Good Vibrations", which is now considered the pinnacle of his songwriting career. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
