Skiing 2004-2005
Jan 3, 2005-So far the 04-05 season has been interesting.. I've been skiing at Sugarbush more than Smuggs this season because i've been volunteering with Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports.  The snow has been falling, although, I think we've got more rain than snow this season!  We were able to get a few good woods runs in at Smuggs a couple of weeks ago though, now the skis have to get sent to the shop just to hold an edge.. the season will get better i'm sure!
Jan 6, 2005-Ellen and I decided to splurge a little bit and get some tele bindings since she wants to learn how to, plus we had a couple pairs of extra skiis hanging around.  I mounted my bindings last night, and hers will get mounted tonight.  I can't wait to take mine out on the mountain!!
Dec 18, 2004-Ski Day #4- Great views and snow that day! (and cold!)
Jan 9, 2005-Ski Day #12-Dave and Kristen Watson and I went to Jay Peak for the day to sample the new snow.  They got about 10" of fresh fluff, but we coun'd ski n the woods too much because of the icy base.  Conditions were great, but only on the greeomed runs!  I took out my new tele skiis in the morning, then had to switch over to the downhill gear after lunch cause my legs were burning!  All in all, another quality ski day!!
Jan 15, 2005-I'm off to the races at Gunstock with the Vermont Adaptive Ski Team (which i'm a Co-coach of)  pics and report to follow!
Jan 15, 2005-Ski Day #13-Saturday I was coaching the VASS team at Gunstock for our first race of the season!  The racers got 2 gold medals in their classes.  It was a great day for a race!  Stayed in Waitsfield for the night after going out to the Local Folk Smokehouse with numerous people from Mad River Glen and Sugarbush.  It was a GREAT night!
Jan 16, 2005-Ski Day #14-Skiied all day at Sugarbush with some kids from VASS and Ellen.  She's starting out on tele-skiis this year, and so far, she ROCKS!  The pic above is us on the Green Mountain Express chair at Sugarbush North.
Jan 17, 2005-Ski Day #15-Ellen and I had a day off work (for once!) so se decided to have a tele-day at Smuggs.  That was FUN!  both of us playing around on our tele-skiis in the frigid cold!  We stuck around for a half-day due to the cold.
Feb 5, 2005-Ski Day #21-Saturday I was coaching the VASS team at Sunday River for our second race of the season!  The racers got 2 gold medals in their classes.  It was a great day for a race, about 55 degrees and SUNNY!  Almost spring like conditions, and it was crowded up there.  We were able to drive up the night before and stay in town (thankfully), which made for a nice relaxing morning.
Feb 6, 2005-Ski Day #22-Watson and I skiied at Sugarbush today, nice conditions all day, all out in the SUN!  The bumps on Ripcord, Sunrise, and Exterminator were amazing!  Nothing like a fun day on the mountain in the sun with a friend!
Feb 13, 2005-Ski Day #24-Watson and I hiked up the Teardrop trail on the Underhill side of Mt. Mansfield and skiied down.  His Wife and a friend hiked up halfway with us and snowshoed the rest of the way down, while we pressed on to near the top of the mountain.  The day was cold, but sunny, plus it dumped about 16-20" of fresh, light powder the night before, so conditions ROCKED.  I skinned up on my tele gear, while Dave opted to snowshoe up and ride his board down.  Lhotse was trying out her new yellow doggie booties, and from what I saw, she liked them!
Feb 27, 2005-Ski Day #28-Ryan T. and I were at Smuggs for the day.  It was nice to ski there again, since it was our home mountain for the longest time.  I warmed up with a run down Doc's, then popped into the lower part of Black Hole, traversed across Three Mountain Glades, and hopped into the woods skiiers left of M1 liftline, then over to the Madonne 1 lift.  This set the pace for the day.  I was super stoked that I just absolutly ripped that entire line.  I met up with Ryan, and we headed up M1 and headed over to the woods off Drifter.  After a few fast paced runs thru the woods, we headed in for lunch.  Ryan suggested that we go hike up the LT and onto Morse and try to find some trails down into the Morse Bowl.  I remembered that a ski patroller friend of mine told me he cut a few trails up there a number of years ago, so Ryan and I decided to give it a shot and do some exploration.  We hopped into the trailhead and found a nice igloo some one made, (complete with female mannequin on top!) so we stopped and checked it out, then went hiking up the LT.  We hiked for about 20 minutes and came to a set of tracks going down to the area we wanted to be in, so we put out gear on and followed the tracks.  (We later found out that this trail was called Hagarman's) It was the BEST snow on the mountain that day, only about 15 people went in there before us, so there was plenty of untracked snow to be had.  The run was SICK.  It was defiantely a day to be remembered!
