First Baptist Church's Properties

On The 500 Block of State Street

The Lincoln Hotel - In 2001, Bro. Hyles led the church to purchase the hotel, to serve as the new home to the Hammond City Rescue Mission. The renovation was completed last spring, and the mission men have moved in. On Sundays, the Sunbeams and Pathfinders Sunday school classes (classes for the developmentaly slow) meet on the first floor.

The Seifer Furnature Building - In a site devoted to the historical significance of State Street, the webmaster wrote, "The impressive five-story Seifer's building (1925) shows the Colonial Revival style. The inscription in the masonry above the entryway reads "Seifer's Furniture Co." Despite its appearance, this building is still in use; on the Sunday I photographed it, people were entering and leaving." This has been owned by First Baptist since 1973. 531 State Street (note that the marble floor at the entrance reads "231-233") is the home for many of the "C" Sunday school classes, and also Bro. Rodney Jordan's 5th-grade "B" class. The Church intends to fix it up, sometime after the new auditorium is completed.

The late Werth's Building, as it looked last. The former Werth's Appliance Store - The old store was purchased by First Baptist in 1973. It served as the meeting place for the Sunbeams and Pathfinders Sunday school class, until the completion of the renovations to the Lincoln Hotel (see above). It was torn down in the winter of 2001.

The Teen Center - This building has been our "A" Teen center for years. Also, it is used for the "Together Forever" "A" Sunday School class.

The Old Elks' Building - The structure was purchased by First Baptist in either the late '60's or the early '70's. Currently, this bulding is used for Primary II "B," as well as for the Bus Office (where workers and captains meet), as well as THE Bus Office (Think of it as a "jail" for misbehaving bus kids!!).

The Annex Building - This is one of the first buildings purchased by First Baptist, sometime after the fire in 1964. It is used for Junior I & II Sunday schools at this time.

A couple that FBC doesn't own...YET!

The Former Apostolic Temple - This couple of buildings is right in the middle of our growth, and the owner (a lady Petecostal preacher) knows it. She'll sell it to us...for the bargain-basement price of only $1,200,000.00!! Current plans for this building by First Baptist: Let them rot.
