In the beginning...
(updated Oct 2003)
In 1974, my father, Jim Cooper, purchased the 569th set of KR2 plans (the original receipt signed by Ken is still attached to the first page of the plans).  In 1978, the initial building was started.  Over the next 10 years, work would continue on the plane while he was in port (US Navy).  He died in '88, not able to see his dream of flying the KR2 come true.  After 15 years, I will finish that dream...
Currently on "fixed" gear... Not sure about the green canopy (my Dad must have got it at a good price).
My dad built the plane as a fixed taildragger for a grass strip (notice the oak plank below the gear to support a one piece spring), but had to resort to building the retract due to time and money (in those days the alum kit came with the retract).  I am planning to remove the tailwheel and replace with tri-gear...
Spars installed, started on retract...
Aft fuselage...
Nice tailwheel with a lot of clearance for a grass strip.  However, this will be coming off with the conversion to tri-gear...
Rear shot...
