About The DJ
WECB - Emerson College Campus Radio
Evvy Nominated: "Best On-Air Personality!"
Ok, about me. Let's start from the beggining... (NOTE: This was written in 2004)

I was born Jonathan Blair Paula on February 5th, 1986. I live in Nahant Massachusetts, the 3rd smallest town (by georgraphical size) in the country, a small suburb just 10 miles north of Boston.

Then, lots of stuff happened, and I got involved with my high school's (Swampscott High School) video department. After becoming president of said department, it became clear where I wanted to goto college. After being wait-listed, I decided to attend Colby-Sawyer college. But, Emerson finally wrote back and accepted me. And lots of stuff happened... and here I am, attending this fine college.

Freshman year of college I had two shows on WECB:
Fall, 2004 - Saturday Nights With J-Pizzle: I really didn't have much of a clue of what I was doing, but I was having fun, and I experimented with custom bumps, and some bed music towards the end of the semester.
Spring, 2005 - After Midnight (With J-Pizzle and Ezra Horne): I had so much fun on my show from the fall, that I decided to invite my good friend, and radio vetern, fellow Emerson freshman, Ezra Horne to join me for our new show. It would focus on all of the same music - Classic rock and 80's pop. We perfected the art of looped songs to use as bed music for us to talk and banter over, and created lots of fun gimics, and other nifty show segments - including the long-running "Rock And Roll Timeline". At the end of the semester, Ezra submitted some of our work to the Evvy awards, and go us nominated for "Best On-Air Personality"

The first semester of my sophmore year, I attended Emerson's Castle Well program in the Netherlands. So... I missed out on a whole bunch of potential radio shows I could have done had I stayed in Boston. No worries though, because when I returned to Boston for the Spring 2006 semester, WECB program manager Paul O'Neil gave me a a four hour to make up for it. And
The Roadhouse airs every Thursday night from 8pm to Midnight.

I've loved music my entire life, and try to listen to it at every waking, and sleeping hour of the day. I grew up as a child listening to classic rock (and current stuff, which at the time was stuff from the 80's), which is why today I love this music so much. Which is what my show will focus on. It's not that I'm oppossed to new music of today... it's just that it hasn't been around long enough, and its not all good. Watch, you wait five more years, and 80% of this stuff will have disappeared, the stuff that sticks around is the stuff that is worth listening too. And if you wait 40 years, and they're still playing it, then you know you got a great song. (Think anything by The Beatles).

Long before I got into Emerson, people kept telling me I would be a great DJ (as people have really liked the mix CD's I make for them, etc.), and also that I have "a face for radio". I have a pretty sizable collection of music over 10,000 songs. Everything from Frank Sinatra to Metalica. So, when I got to Emerson is was a given that I would try to get myself on the radio. And yeah, I tried out for WERS, and didn't get a spot - but I wasn't expecting one. I'm just some punk freshman, why should they give me a spot.

I'm also really into computers, video games etc. A "nerd" as it were. But, I'm a cool nerd, so it's all good. More info about my computer, and my favorite video games can be found in my AIM subprofile.

Also, musically here is some more info about me:
- I don't play any instrument, but would very much like to learn how to play piano or guitar.
- 128 kbps, 44 mhz, 90dB - a must for my all 5,000 mp3 files
- Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven (Live, Earls Court, 5-17-75): my favorite version of my favorite song.
- I don't really like rap music made after Vanilla Ice.
- Phil Collins is underratted.
- Ashlee Simpson annoys me.
- The Holy Trinity Of Guitar:
                                         Jimi Hendrix = God
                                         Jimmy Page = Jesus
                                         Eric Clapton = Holy Spirit

- I don't know who played the first bass line, but whoever it was, John Entwhistle was doing their wife. In other words, Entwhistle is retardledly fantastic on bass.

For additional info on me, poke around my AIM sub-profile, it's quite extensive. SN = JPizzle112
