the web's ultimate dance party

You can find out how I got my interest in HiNRG by reading about the radio stations I grew up listening to below...

The major main-stream dance music station in Chicago is "party radio B-96." B-96 plays a wide variety of dance music, from HiNRG to hip hop to retro. Monday through Friday they play mixes at lunchtime, and also in the evenings. Friday and Saturday nights from 10 'till 5 the B-96 mixmasters throw down slammin' mixes! There are about seven mixmasters in all, each focusing on a different style of dance music. For example, long-time B-96 mixmaster Bad Bay Bill mixes house music...Chicago style! DJ Markski mixes the latest in HiNRG and eurodance music, and the other mixmasters throw down everything from freestyle to old-skool.

I've been staying tuned to energy 88.7 fm since the mid 1980's, which was a 24 hour stereo HiNRG station operated by Loyola University in Chicago. This station knew it's purpose and focused squarely on HiNRG and eurodance music "all day, all night." It was genuinely the dance music authority in Chicago on the club music scene. Unbelievably a couple of years ago, the communications department decided to change the station's format to "be the voice for those who would otherwise not have an outlet". Very fortunately, the station's program director, Jammin' Down JD, was able to keep the energy alive by creating a specialty show called "the Energy 88.7 Club Jam!" on friday nights from 7pm-2am. It keeps the station's tradition alive with the latest and retro HiNRG club music, and features mixes by "the Power Pack" HiNRG mixers. Nevertheless, what was once a giant among the top stations in Chicago, is now a sad, pathetic joke that traded it's greatness for the mediocrity it so richly deserves!
