Ode to My Electric Bass
~ djl

O,
That my bass
Were a woman...
I'd marry
And care for
And hold
Her
Close to me
Forever
Her fine
Tan
Shapely
Korina body
Resting in my lap
Or hanging
A sweet embrace
Around my
Hunched-low shoulders
Two volume
One tone
Crank
The knobs
To the perfect
Sound

O,
That my bass
Were a woman...
I'd wrap
My left palm
Ever so gently
Around
The back
Of her mohogany neck
Or do I mean
Monogamy?
And my fingers
Would,
Firmly,
Press against
Her
Rosewood fingerboard
Sliding up
And down
To the rhythm
And the beat

O,
That my bass
Were a woman...
With those
Dual humbuckers
Her tone is ripe
Thick
And gorgeous
One part
Of one whole
That
We all become
When the music
Arises.
