“the place to meet other homeschoolers”

Park Day gatherings

One member described Park Day as “the place to meet other homeschoolers, with whom you then go on and do all the other cool stuff.”  The Park Day gathering is offered by a small circle of “park committee” members.

Park day is great for meeting other homeschooling families, asking your questions about homeschooling, discussing curriculum materials, fresh air and playtime.  The moms’ discussions at Park Days are often the origin of future activities between the families.  Newcomers are welcome!

The Park Day gathering is held every Monday.  We follow really flexible hours, vaguely from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (or 4:00, or 5:00 … basically until interest wanes) at various locations which change and rotate through the year.

Park locations are currently being posted on the all-LA homeschool calendar at http://www.homeschoolla.org/

À We’re quite casual about the time

One family might show up at 10:00, sometimes no one shows up until 12:30.  The hours vary seasonally with the sun, and spring fever.  The hours seem to be shifting later over the years, as our growing children require more classes, activities, lessons, etc, prior to start of the park day event!  We do seem to have an “early crowd” and a “late crowd”, so if you can’t make it till 3:00 or so, you very well might still find someone from the group there!!

Ü  For maps and directions to these parks, please refer to the Thomas Guide site http://www.thomas.com/poi/lao/CategoryList18.html  .  Mapquest http://www.mapquest.com/ might help, but the Thomas Guide site is better (when it’s working!).

ÛDamp weather?  Some families may be crawling the walls and need an outing.  Usually, families play it moment by moment, unless it’s absolutely pouring.   If there’s a break in the rain showers, or particularly if rain is merely threatening, try contacting another family in the circle or just dropping by the park – likelihood is you’ll find someone!
