California Homeschool Network
California Homeschool Network (CHN) is an inclusive, statewide homeschooling organization serving families across a diverse spectrum of homeschooling styles and philosophies. CHN monitors and responds to legislation which may pose a threat to homeschooling, and to this end, maintains a dialog with local, state, and national homeschooling organizations.  The CHN website has wonderful articles to explore!

Homeschool Association of California
Homeschool Association of California (HSC) is an inclusive, statewide homeschooling organization that supports and promotes the entire spectrum of homeschooling.  The HSC website has a lot of really good legal stuff.  http://www.hsc.org/

HSLDA – the Whole Story

The Link - homeschooling newsletter
You can read this info-packed publication online, or subscribe to it in snail-mail version for free.  In years past, this newsletter provided articles about a wide variety of homeschooling approaches.  In recent years its focus has narrowed a lot to a specific style and method, perhaps reflective of the family who publishes it.  Yet it remains a free publication, and has tons of ads of homeschooling resources, which in itself is useful for families new to homeschooling.

Typical Course of Study

The World Book Encyclopedia people polled school districts and developed a document that lists, by grade level, the typical course of study for school students.  Sometimes this type of a list is called a “scope and sequence”.  This is a basic framework for “what your child needs to know”.  The World Book list is referred to by many homeschooling books, and it’s free online!
