The 91 Ford Escort was purchased in March for $200.  It was supposed to be driven in the Figure 8 and was owned by Andrew Mir.  Believe it or not, but this car was inspected and registered for pizza delivery and daily use.  Bought for temporary delivery use only, unforseen predicaments made this car a powerhouse for all the transportation needs for Andy.  The spoiler was added to provide down-force and prevent the car from actually taking flight when traveling at high rates of speed.  At the end of its life the escort was painted black using only the finest cans of Wal Mart Spray paint.
This 90' Ford Escort was purchased for $40. With one flat tire it was driven from Bo's apartment  back to 1247. The saying goes "You get what you pay for."  This marvel proves that theory incorrect. It came partially prepared with a white door and one window pre-smashed!  Originally scheduled to meet its demise in the figure-8 competition, Andrew Mir made this beauty a last minute entry into the "Small car" derby event.
The car sported a confederate flag and orange coat, ala Dukes of Hazard.
Let me introduce you to the third Ford in the lineup: v8 86' Ford T-Bird (a.k.a. Bantha). DJ proves to be a very productive member of the DDCB year after year finding autos from coworkers for destruction. This was our second car that made it to "The Show" It came down to the wire.  Due to the grizzledness of a friendly mechanic and his blow torch, he cut off the illegal trailor hitch and Bantha was allowed entry. Some doubted DJ's ability to drive aggressively after years of taming from his 4 cylinder Honda Accord.
The DDCB went through 4 cars in preparation for the 2002 Derby.  When the smoke cleared only 2 cars were actually entered into competition.  The lives of the 4 cars are detailed below
THE ESCORT
Sadly, the Escort never reached its goal of being pummeled into scrap metal.  The transmission gave out after 12,000 miles of Pizza delivery and it was donated to The Good Will.
Escort Numero Dos
Yes, Erik actually did break the windshield with his bare fist......many many times.
BANTHA
The T-Bird before any derby mods were attempted including a "rad" paint job by Chris Stearns.  Pictures, soon to come.  The T-Bird also served temporarily as a pizza delivery car for none other than Andrew Mir.
VW Golf
The golf may be considered the Bastard child of the DDCB in 2002.  A product of having too many cars and not enough man hours to go around.  It may have been able to run, but not enough preparation was put into it.  It also had trouble starting and I believe a Chronic flat Ti'.
2002 Monroe County Fair Demolition Derby presented by JM Productions
Thanks to Kelli Rodogna and Tiger for driving this beast back to Rochester from Buffalo.  They managed to avoid thruway traffic, but not local cops.  They were stopped for assorted mechanical violations. As the cop approached the driver's side window, fumes poured out of the fractured exhaust pipe into the Policeman's face. Tiger calmly explaned the importance of their trip and Bantha was free to meet its destiny.  Bantha served Tiger's family as a trusty family car for upwards of 15 years.
Escort #2 and driver Andy Mir are ready to reak some havoc in the Small Car derby event.
DJ sits atop escort #2 (now painted orange) and puts the finishing touches on a Confederate battle flag.  This flag can also be seen in front of the State house in Columbia, SC where DJ attends college at the University of South Carolina.
Zach Sparer, Andy, and Chris Ozburn are also present in this scene.
The final product of many man hours put forth by Chris Stearns and his trusty paintbrush
This picture illustrates the level of effort that was put forth in preparing the GTI for the derby.  Notice all of us lounging and the GTI sitting by itself in the background.  Also notice Chris Stearns painting while the rest of us lounge.  From right to left: DJ, Greg Pheterson, John Baxter, Dusty Wasserman, Ned VanAllan, Zach Sparer, Chris Ozburn.
