Research facilities

Since 1997, we set up a laboratory to perform waterborne exposures to different types of stressors. We have sets of 10, 40 and 60-gallon glass tanks, that relying on a static-renewal water change system, help us to perform such studies.

Our research is based on analysis of endpoints at the biochemical, clinical biochemistry, pathological and toxicological levels. Such changes or adaptive responses represent primary, secondary or tertiary events in the cell injury process. Among the endpoints that we have used in past studies are : gross lesions in target tissues, critical changes in ion concentrations, variations in enzymatic activities, alterations in hematological variables, etc.

40 gallon-glass tanks for acclimation. Tap-dechlorinated water is stored (black tanks) for no less than 24 hours prior to water change. Blue plastic sheet around the tanks help us to minimize stress during acclimation period of specimens.
