K&N Filter Upgrade
This is a quick and easy mod.  I picked up the adapter and brand new filter on e-bay for $45.  Not too bad when you consider the filter alone was $40 at Pep Boys.  I picked up the recharge kit for $10.  All in all, this took me about 30 mins, which included getting my tools out and having a smoke.  Below are the steps that I took.  If you don't have time to write this all down or don't like the way web pages print, click HERE for a downloadable version--it's small so it won't take long.  Below the steps are the pics of the finished product.  Sorry, this is one of the mods that I did before starting this page so I don't have step by step pics-thought the downloadable file does have to good graphics.  As always, any problems, shoot me an e-mail.

1.  Unhook the Negative cable from the battery.  Yeah, you have reset the clock and presets on your radio, but the you have unhook power so the computer has to learn the new change.  Leave it unhooked for at least 30 mins.

2.  Oil up the filter.  It needs to be dry before you can slap it on and drive it.  Follow the directions that comes with the kit.  Now, lay it off to the side and let's tear that air filter housing out.

3.  Unhook the plug from the MAF.

4.  Loosen the band clamp that holds the MAF to the intake tube.  Then , turn it slightly to unhook it.

5.  Now, remove the MAF and top part of the air filter housing so you can now see the air filter.

6.  Remove the 4 bolts attaching the MAF to the air filter housing top.  Keep the bolts just incase your kit doesn't have them.

7. Now get out your trusty pry bar or B.F. screw driver (if you don't know what the B.F. stands stop right there and e-mail me :)
and pry the base of the air filter housing out.  You may have to reposition it a couple of times to work the housing out.

IMPORTANT-DO NOT THROW THE HOUSING AWAY-YOU MAY HAVE TO HOOK IT BACK UP FOR EMISSIONS OR WARRENTY WORK.

8.  Now, loosley bolt the adaptor and support bracket(if supplied) to the MAF. And loosley attach the support bracket to factory bolt

9.  Reattach the MAF to the Intake tube.  Now that it is in position, tighten everything up.

10.  If it's been 30 min, reattach the negative battery cable.  The computer is now in a learning phase, so your performance might seem a little crappy for awhile.  I find it's best to drive about 30-35 miles not in traffice.

11.  Once steps 1-10 are comp, sit back and pop the top of a cold one.
