WELCOME
Let
me introduce myself, my name is T.R. Reed.
Born Taryn Renee Reed, I am a native of Mount
Vernon, New York, a suburb located in lower
Westchester County. Throughout my childhood, I always
possessed a creative trait. Usually, it was drawing
that I immersed myself in. But I also loved to write
poetry. I
believe it was the shock of puberty that made my
writing take shape. And it was while attending college
at Central Connecticut State University in New
Britain, Connecticut that my writing matured and
became a passion.
Until
a few years ago, I kept my poems close to my heart.
Writing helped to calm my soul and spirit.
The few people I did share my talents with,
told me I should try to get published. At first, I
balked at the idea. I didn’t want anyone to
criticize my work. But then I decided to give it a
try. I
didn’t want to settle for the nine to five grind, I
wanted more out of life.
So becoming published became my dream.
After
a year of submitting poetry to publishers, a New York
literary agent suggested using my “colorful
language” and “gift of elaboration” to pen a
full-length novel.
Thus I began writing, THE OTHER SIDE OF DA
COURT. It
was a difficult task that I didn’t put much effort
into at first.
Then in February 2002, my world was turned upside down like so many Americans as a result of September 11th.
My employer gave into the failing economy and began the inevitable lay offs.
Who knew the pink slips would come so fast and in such great numbers.
Completely distraught and depressed, I re-opened my notebooks and began to dive back into my novel.
Finishing it gave me peace. And I knew then, there was a greater purpose for me.
I had been given the gift of time to complete the novel and maybe if I created the perfect niche, I could give something back to others.
After another year and a half of submitting query letters and chapter samples, a rejection letter was returned to me with a handwritten note that said, “Try PublishAmerica.” Thus, the print-on-demand company located in Frederick, Maryland, accepted me. PublishAmerica and I share one common goal that has made this union a perfect fit. Our focus is not to just make money off of retail sales, but to publish works that are “unique and realistic to the human experience.”
What
if a fictitious novel could entertain and
enlighten any reader,
young or old?
Fiction
with a twist!!!
I
believe that the right formula lies in a funny,
realistic story that allows the reader to dive into a
character’s world and become part of it.
As the reader identifies with the characters,
they unconsciously see themselves or factors of their
own life in the story.
I believe the reader will take what the
characters learn, remember it, and perhaps use it to
an extent in their lives.
TRUE
INSPIRATIONS,
a
series of ideas for future novels, is intended for the
young adult and adult reader. By using sincere
characters and honest plots that target audiences age
12 and up can relate to, I believe “Fiction with a
twist” can be fun for all ages.
It can change the way teens feel about reading
as well as help them face life’s challenges. And
give the adult entertaining food for thought!
But
it’s still fiction…it’s still fun!!!
