Scene: - Ben and Maria out at dinner.
BEN: "You’re kidding right??"
MARIA: "Nope, the whole time he’s making fun of her she’s standing right behind him."
BEN: "Did she chew him out?"
MARIA: "What do you think?"
BEN: "Oh to have been a fly on the wall. Oh excuse me could we have another bottle of wine?"
MARIA: "Hey are you trying to get me drunk?"
BEN: "Maria, we both know that you have been drunk since glass number three."
MARIA: "Have not?"
BEN: "Have too!"
MARIA: "So what if I have, you’re just jealous!"
BEN: "Really?"
Scene fades.
Scene: - Amy’s apartment.
MEG: "We can’t tell her!"
AMY: "We have to."
MEG: "She’ll be gutted."
AMY: "He doesn’t deserve her and she’s just wasting her time being with him when he . . . eww."
Just then Sean let’s himself in.
SEAN: "What’s eww?"
MEG: "Oh nothing."
Amy just looks at her.
SEAN: "Okay out with it?"
MEG: "Out with what?"
SEAN: "I’m talking to Amy. Amy honey, what’s wrong?"
That was it, honey did it.
AMY: "Lee’s having an affair with someone."
SEAN: "Say that again!"
MEG: "She said Lee’s having an affair with someone."
SEAN: "I thought that’s what you said."
Scene fades.
Scene: - Ben and Maria walking towards Maria and Meg’s apartment.
BEN: "You’re doing well for someone who’s drunk."
MARIA: "Yeah well you shouldn’t have gotten a third bottle of wine! And I was doing fine until you started practically pouring it down my throat!"
BEN: "I did not!"
MARIA: "You were going to ask the waitress if they had a funnel to stick down my throat."
BEN: "I was kidding."
MARIA: "Sure you where! So are you coming in for coffee?"
BEN: "Are you trying to take advantage of me?"
MARIA: "Someone has a big head. And believe me if I was taking advantage of you you’d know!" He laughs. "You can even sleep on the couch if you want."
BEN: "You don’t mind?"
MARIA: "I wouldn’t have asked."
BEN: "Okay I’ll stay."
Just then they arrive at the front door to the apartment. She opens the door and they enter.
MARIA: "Oh my God, it’s freezing in here. I’m going to kill her, I am."
BEN: "I actually think that it might be warmer outside."
MARIA: "You might be right."
BEN: "Why is it so cold in here anyway?"
MARIA (putting the kettle on) : "Meg has a tendency of doing her work-out in here. She turns the heating off and never puts it back on. And it takes forever to heat this room."
BEN: "Look thanks for offering coffee but I’ll just get a cab . . ."
MARIA: "No you won’t, I asked you to stay so you’re staying. You can just bunk with me."
BEN (awkwardly) : "Okay."
Maria doesn’t notice.
Scene: - 20 minutes later. Maria’s room.
Ben is lying under the covers and then Maria enters wearing satin pajamas.
MARIA: "I see you made yourself comfortable."
BEN (opens his eyes) : "Your bed is soooo...cozy. How do you manage to get up in the morning."
MARIA: "Sometimes Meg has to come in and bang the frying pan on the floor and then drag me into the living room by my hair."
this Romeo is bleeding

Just then there is a knock on Joey’s hotel room door.
JOEY (thinking) : "Room service shouldn’t be here for another twenty minutes."
She slowly walks over to the door, reading some more of the script
BEN: "You’re kidding right?"
MARIA: "You would think." She climbs in bed beside him and her leg touches his. "Ah you’re freezing! Come here."
She tangles her legs in with his and wraps her arms around him.
She then opens the door.
JOEY: "Dawson?"
DAWSON: "Hey Jo. I just stopped by to ask you if you wanted to go grab something to eat."
JOEY: "You’re too late."
DAWSON: "I am?"
JOEY: "Yeah I already ate with Spielberg." He laughs. "Come on in and I’ll change." He enters the room and just stands there and she starts rummaging through drawers for clothes. "You can sit down. I’ll be right back."

Scene: - Dawson and Joey sitting at a table in a restaurant.
At first no one really knows where to start the conversation. When they do start talking it’s mostly just small talk. How’s Bessie? How’s Mitch and Gail? What have they been up to? Joey tells Dawson all about Sarah and Nicola and their company, etc...Dawson tells her about adjusting to life in LA, his new friends. Writing his script. How he and James got totally drunk and nearly got arrested by the cops after he had sold his script.
Scene: - Two days later. Dawson and Joey are discussing designs over lunch.

DAWSON: "Nice rock by the way!"
JOEY (looks nervously down at the ring) : "Thanks."
DAWSON: "So when did you get engaged? "
JOEY: "A few months ago."
DAWSON (thinking) : "Maybe, just maybe it’s not . . . " (To Joey.) "So who’s the lucky guy?"
JOEY: "Pacey." (thinking to herself) "Did he just flinch when I said his name?"
DAWSON: "Oh I didn’t realise you were still . . ."
JOEY: "Dawson we don’t have to talk about this!"
DAWSON (gives her a weak smile) : "Thanks."
They go back to talking about the sets.
Scene: - Dawson’s office. Joey has been in LA for almost a week and is showing Dawson some of her sketches and some samples.

JOEY (breaking the silence) : "Bessie told me!"
DAWSON: "Told you what?"
JOEY: "About Gretchen leaving." Dawson doesn’t say anything. "What happened?"
DAWSON: "I came home one day and she’d packed all of her stuff. She told me she was leaving and going back to Boston."
JOEY: "Did she say why?" Dawson nods his head. "Why?"
DAWSON (sounding like he’s in some sort of a daze) : "She said that she couldn’t compete anymore, couldn’t live in the shadows anymore."
JOEY: "Of what?"

DAWSON: "You"
JOEY (silent) : "Oh."
DAWSON: "Even with you on the other side of the country. She said she knew I still loved you. Told me all I had to do was tell her it wasn’t true. I couldn’t and she knew I couldn’t."
JOEY: "I’m sorry Dawson."
DAWSON: "Don’t be. Part of me was glad that she was leaving. It meant that I didn’t have to pretend anymore."
There is an awkward silence for a few moments and then Anna walks in.
ANNA: "Hey why do you two look so glum? It’s lunch time, take a break. Or do you want me to bring in some lunch?"
DAWSON: "How about I treat you two to lunch?"
JOEY: "I’m game"
ANNA: "You’re on."
Scene: - Restaurant, during lunch.

JOEY: "So Anna have you seen any of the filming?"
ANNA: "Not really, usually if I get on to the set it’s only for a flying visit between breaks."
DAWSON: "I make her work so that she doesn’t harass my cast!"
ANNA: "You just don’t want me showing them that I can talk back to the boss and get away with it."
JOEY (laughing) : "Nice to see that you still have a way with the ladies Dawson."
DAWSON: "Great, just great. Now you two are going to gang up on me."
JOEY: "You bet your ass we are."
ANNA: "I have to tell you Dawson, I really like her."
DAWSON: "Well if it’s any consolation I don’t. So we disagree on something again."
JOEY (laughing) : "Dawson doesn’t like people ganging up on him."
ANNA: "I’ve learnt that. He’s started to dread his mother coming to visit."
JOEY: "Aw poor Dawson."
DAWSON: "I’m still here you know?!"
ANNA: "We’re trying to forget that!"
DAWSON: "I’m starting to wish that mom was here. At least then I’d have dad and Lily here to stick up for me!"
JOEY: "Oh poor Dawson. Would you prefer it if I sang your praises for a while? Maybe even a few funny stories?"
ANNA: "I like funny stories."
well, there ain't no luck
DAWSON: "Stick to praises Joey."
JOEY: "Okay, but we’ll do funny stories when you’re not around." (to Anna): "You really should see him in action on the set."
ANNA: "Why is he funny?"
Just then Dawson’s phone rings and he goes outside to answer it.

JOEY: "No, but he’s a joy to watch." As she talks about Dawson she has this gleam in her eyes. "There’s just something about the way he works. I always remember how he’d get this really intense look in his eyes whenever we where filming a scene and it looked just right. Or the look of sheer joy and the big grin you’d see as soon as a scene had been completed to his satisfaction. And believe me sometimes he can be hard to please. And when things don’t seem to be going too well he just gets this look of complete determination on his face. Kinda like ‘don’t get in my way or else you might die’, that sort of thing. He loved making movies and I loved watching him do it."
Dawson comes back and sits down. Anna and Joey are quiet for a minute and Joey seems to be focusing on a spot on the table.
DAWSON: "Hey, what’s going on? What’d I miss?"
ANNA: "Oh nothing much. Just me bad mouthing you. The usual."
DAWSON: "And I wasn’t even here to defend my honour!"
ANNA: "That’s okay, Joey did it pretty well for you."
DAWSON: "Oh a battle of wits between you two, that I would love to see."
Joey looks up at Dawson and smiles.
