Joey no longer lives in Boston, she now lives in Chicago with Pacey, they are still together. Joey is an Interior designer and Pacey works at the local hospital and is doing night classes to become a nurse. They live together. Joey has been out of college for three years and for the first two worked for an interior design company in Boston. Whilst in college she and two of her friends, Nicola and Sarah always joked about starting up there own interior design firm. So that is why she is now in Chicago, co-owner of her own company. The company is called M.A.D. Design’s. The M is from Sarah’s husband, Mark. The A is from Nicola’s husband, Andrew and the D is Joey’s. But that’s not what Joey has told people. She has told people that the A is hers and is for Alex, while the D is after Nicola’s five year old son, Darren.

Dawson is in the only place that you would ever think he could be, LA. He is still single, has his own place and also has a job that he loves. He managed to sell his first script to a major film-making company and has already started shooting it himself. He has returned to Capeside a few times but not very often, his parents come to LA most of the time. The person that is his assistant director is a guy that Dawson went to college with, James. His secretary, Anna is like a surrogate mother always mothering Dawson and James. But that’s only when they aren’t kidding around with one another. And he hasn’t seen Joey since that day he left her Aunt Beth’s. He doesn’t even know where she is. The memory is still too painful for him.

So we pick up the story in Chicago, where the one year anniversary of M.A.D. designs is being celebrated.
Scene: - Joey is out to dinner with a few friend’s. - Saturday.

NICOLA: "I can’t believe that this is us on our one year anniversary already."
SARAH: "I can’t believe that we’ve managed to pull it off."
JOEY: "I can’t believe that we’re still open for business."
SARAH: "God, what a bunch we make."
JOEY: "How did we get here?"
NICOLA: "You’ve been sleeping on the job again if you don’t remember."
JOEY: "So have you."
SARAH: "I propose a toast. Here’s to M.A.D. designs. May her next year be as good as her last one."
NICOLA: "And may it make us rich."
JOEY: "Hear hear."
JOEY, NICOLA + SARAH: "To M.A.D. designs."
WAITRESS: "Are you all ready to order yet?"
JOEY: "Not quite."
NICOLA: "But could we please have another bottle of champagne please?"
JOEY: "Oh I could so get used to this."

Scene: - Joey’s apartment 4 and a half hours later.
Joey stumbles in the front door and tries to be quite but doesn’t do a very good job. She enters her room, walks to the bed and falls down.

JOEY: "Are you awake?"
PACEY: "What do you think?"
JOEY (leans over and hugs him) : "I’m sorry."
PACEY: "Joey how much have to had to drink?"
JOEY: "Lots."
PACEY: "You do know that you are going to feel like shit in the morning?"
the years go by in a matter of days
JOEY: "No I won’t."
PACEY: "Okay you won’t. I’m going to get up for a while so I don’t disrupt my sleeping pattern."
JOEY: "Okay."
She kisses him but he pushes her away.
PACEY: "Not when you’ve been drinking."
JOEY: "Come on Pacey I want to have a little fun."
PACEY: "You know fine well that we don’t when one of us has been drinking."
JOEY: "What if both of us had been drinking?"
PACEY: "That’s different."
JOEY: "It is?"
PACEY: "It is."
JOEY: "Well I’m going to sleep then."
PACEY: "Okay."
As Joey goes to change Pacey exits the room.
