I Can't Ever Get Enough Of You
Part 7
Karen H.

Now my world is filled with so many things
But nothing compares to the touch of your skin
There's a symphony
And a melody that plays whenever you're around
I think I've been found

We'd lain on the floor for a little while after we'd made love, realizing where we were and that the floor was not that great for either of our backs. So we'd moved to the sofa for a while, just lying in each other's arms watching the flames in the fire flicker as we remembered past anniversaries. Our first wedding anniversary, he'd taken me to see a show and I'd surprised him by telling him I'd booked us into a hotel for the evening.

Almost an hour had passed since we'd first entered the room and the few remaining embers were dying out and I was starting to feel cold.

"I still can't believe you went to all this trouble." I tell him as I lightly stroke his hands with my thumb, my body partly on his.

"Really?" He asks before kissing the top of my head.

"Mhmm." I mumble leaning on my elbow. "I thought you'd cook dinner, we'd have some wine and then we'd move things upstairs...but all this-"

"I wanted to make it special, five years of marriage is a long time." He says, lacing his fingers in mine. "Do you want to go upstairs now? You feel cold."

"Yeah." I say moving off of him so he can stand and he moves around the room blowing out the candles and I just watch him. "How long did it take you to light all of those?"

"A while."

"Where did you hide the flowers?" I ask him, realizing they weren't here earlier when Gale was.

"They were in the spare bedroom." As he says that he blows out the last candle which is on the small table beside where I am sitting and the room is almost pitch black.

Dawson sits on the sofa beside me and takes my hand kissing it before laying butterfly kisses up my arm. "Shall we?" He asks and I cup his face, holding him still so I can gently kiss him, sucking on his bottom lip.

He places one arm around my back, moves off of the sofa slightly, before placing his other arm under my legs, scooping in his arms.

I break the kiss and laugh, placing my hands around his shoulders. "I know you're great at the sex but I'm capable of walking."

"It's not as romantic." He replies walking towards the door. "Should I just put you down now?"

I shake my head. "No, that's quite alright. Just so you know I feel totally swept of my feet now."

"Good." He says as we ascend the stairs.

Moments later we've entered our bedroom and he places me on the bed. I scoot over to my side of the bed and he eyes the rose petals I've thrown over the bed, the candles on the nightstands.

"You looking to get lucky...again?" He asks, cocking an eye brow as he rummages in a drawer for some matches to light the candles, our room currently only illuminated by the moonlight.

"No." I reply, grinning at him.

"Didn't think so," He says as he lights the candles and I pull my dressing gown from the chair, slipping it on. Dawson finally sits on the bed beside me, only now he spots the black box lying in the middle of our bed. "What's this?" He asks, looking from the box to me and back at the box.

"The first year," I reply.

"Jo-" He begins.

"Don't Jo me. The rest of your gifts wouldn't have made any sense." I tell him as I move closer to him. "Aren't you going to open that?"

He does so and his face lights as he removes the silver watch from the box. "The first year was a watch?" He asks his eyes now on me.

I shake my head. "No. It's either paper or a clock. I just thought a watch would be better, especially given that you lost your other one."

"I lost it?"

"Yes." I reply blushing.

"That's not how I recall it."

"All that water must have gone to your brain then, because the blood certainly wasn't." I reply as he's about to slip the watch on his wrist. "It has an inscription on the back of it."

He turns the watch over, moving slightly so he can read it aloud in the candle light. "D, my anam cara, forever J". He looks at me as he finished.

"It means soul friend." I say and he slips it on his wrist before leaning forward to kiss me.

"It's perfect."

"This whole evening has been perfect," I reply.

"You liked your-"

I place a finger over his lips. "How many times do I have to tell you yes? And didn't you say earlier it wasn't about the gifts."

"That was before you upstaged mine."

I shake my head. "No, you just think that because of what you were given, but it doesn't matter."

His lips find me as I finish and I wrap an arm around him as I move closer.

"I love you." He says leaning his forehead against mine.

"I know. I love hearing it."

"I love you, I love you, I love you." He says, kissing my cheek his warm breath against my skin and a shiver to run down my spine.

The phone on the nightstand beside Dawson starts to ring and he glances at his watch questioningly.

"Who'd be calling at this time?"

I shrug my shoulders. "Whoever it is, it better be important."

Dawson reaches for the phone as I scoot closer to him, still feeling a little cold.

"Hello?" He says into the receiver. "Hey-" He seems cut off by whoever is on the phone and is listening as he mouths 'it's Todd'. A few moments pass and Dawson looks a little worried. "Todd, you have to calm down."

I throw a worried look at Dawson. "What's-?"

He places him hand over the receiver. "Audrey's gone into labor and Todd is in a panic, he's forgotten what to do." He removed him hand from the phone. "Todd, you are not helping the situation..." He seemed to trail off as Todd carried on speaking on the phone.

"C'mere." I tell Dawson, holding my hand out for the phone as I scoot into his lap and when I place it to my ear Todd is rambling on. "Todd!" I say into the phone with a stern edge to my voice and he stops talking. "Hi Todd. I know it's a big thing having a baby but being in this highly strung panic mode you are in is doing nothing to put Audrey at ease. If Audrey gets distressed it will do no favors for the baby."

"Don't you think I'm under enough pressure as it is?" Todd bites back with panic still evident in his voice.

"You may forget I've been in the position Audrey is in right now and I can assure you, what you feel right now is in no way close to how Audrey feels. A person is gonna come out of her." I tell him. "The way I see it, you have two options: one, you either wise up and get back in the game or two, you prepare yourself for the ass kicking you'll be getting in the next twenty four to forty eight hours. What's it going to be?"

There's silence on the other end of the phone.

"You have to just breathe and remain calm because now I am going to add more weight to all the stressing. If you don't calm down and focus on getting Audrey to the hospital then you'll also have me to deal with and no, you can't just ask Dawson to take me to bed and make me forget, like you tried to do before."

Still he doesn't say anything and Dawson starts to rub the small of my back.

"Are you still there? Say something, snort or make some other noise.

"I'm here."

"Good. How far apart are the contractions?"

"Every fifteen minutes or so."

"How is Audrey?"

"Um, I think she's fine. She's standing by the door with the car keys and she's glaring at me. Yeah, she's fine."

Joey can't help but give a light chuckle. "Good. Now go get your shoes on and let me talk to Audrey."

There's some rustling and Audrey says something to him before she comes on the line. "Hey Joey."

"Hey Mommy!"

"Not yet, although if someone doesn't get their ass in gear the baby might be born here."

"How you feeling?"

"I'm feeling quite good aside from the intense pain that keeps coming. To be honest I'm more worried about getting to the hospital in one piece given how highly strung Todd is. Anyone would think he was the one giving birth."

"Do you want us to come to the hospital now?"

"No, it's going to take a while; I'm just sorry Mr. Cool saw the need to call you. Did he interrupt anything? I know it's your anniversary."

"Don't worry about it, we'll just play with Todd a little and let him think his timing sucked."

"I told him not to call."

"Don't worry about it. I'll see you in the morning okay?"

"Yeah, night Joey."

"Night Audrey." I reply as I place the phone back in its cradle and wrap an arm around Dawson. "Why did Todd have to become all male all of a sudden, he's normally so calm and collected?"

Dawson kisses my shoulder. "He's just really worried. You can't expect all men to be calm with this sort of thing."

"You mean like you were?"

"Yes."

"You must be just the rare exception to the rule." I reply grinning at him.

"Must be. So..." he begins. "I hear it's our anniversary."

"Me too." I brush some hair over my shoulder. "Isn't there stuff we should be doing?"

He looks thoughtful. "I don't know, I can't think of anything we could be doing."

I lower my bathrobe off of my shoulders a little. "How about now?" He's silent but scrunches up his face and shakes his head. I undo the belt on my bathrobe and slip it down further. "Now?"

He shakes his head. "I think you're just gonna have to show me what you have in mind, I'm totally drawing a blank."

"Is that so?" I say before devouring his lips in a hungry kiss as I take his hands, placing them on my breasts.
