I Can't Ever Get Enough Of You
Part 6
Karen H.

When we make love I lose track of time
I can't count all the colors I see in your eyes
And while your heart beats in mine, it's true
I can't ever get enough of you

Dawson pushes the door open and for a brief moment I feel as though I have been taken back in time, to the night he proposed to me.

The room is decorated with different flowers that symbolize different points in our relationship; a mixture of white roses, daisies and gladiolas. The lights are dimmed and the room is strewn with lit candles and the roaring log fire offers some light too. He hits a button on the remote control for the CD player and one of our favorite love songs starts to play.

“Dawson…” I began but I didn’t really know what to say. “I…when did you plan all of this? Why did you plan all this?”

“Can’t a guy plan a special romantic evening for his girlfriend without there being some kind of ulterior motive?”

“Maybe, maybe not.” Was my reply as he took my hand and led me toward the fireplace. “But cooking me a meal, the flowers (this time only daisies and roses) and champagne…you’re up to something. I know it.”

“And Joey always knows best, doesn’t she!” He replied, mock seriously.

“Very funny.”

“Would you like something to drink?” He had asked, swiftly changing the subject, something that hadn’t gone at all unnoticed by me.

“Yeah. A glass of wine.” I replied and just like that he took a bottle from beside the fire and poured some into one of the glasses on the table. “Aren’t you going to have some?” I asked after he had handed me the glass.

“In a second, I’m gonna pop on some music.” He replied standing.

“I’m shocked Dawson, shouldn’t you have had the music on standby so that you just had to press a button?”

He turned mock glaring at me before calling me a ‘smart ass’.

Once the music was on he sat beside me once again, pouring himself a glass of wine before clinking his glass with mine. After Dawson had taken a sip of the wine he put the glass down and took my free hand.

“I had thought about going for the long-winded speech about love, and us and well…love. You know me and how big I normally am with speeches but I’m just going to keep it simple for a change.” He began and I just looked at him expectantly as he fished around for something in his shirt pocket and moved onto one knee. “Joey, I love you. Will you marry me?” He finished as he produced a white gold ring encrusted with diamonds with a large diamond at the center.

“I…Dawson…I knew you were up to something.” I said to him, slightly surprised.

We’d been together for so long but we’d never really discussed marriage. Not seriously anyway. Todd once asked me if I would make an honest man out of Dawson and I just blushed, looked at Dawson and replied ‘maybe’. And with Dawson it was normally a casual joke, I don’t know why. Maybe because we knew it was inevitable.

I tried to open my mouth again to reply and found I couldn’t, so instead I did the only other thing that was sure to convey every emotion I felt. I placed my wine glass on the table, one of my hands over his and the cup his cheek with the other, slowly bringing my lips to his. Our lips move together, as they have countless times before and he takes my hand that was over his (the one with the ring). The kiss suddenly changes and is no longer only filled with emotion, but also with passion as I part my lips and his tongue enters my mouth. Somehow as his tongue moved against mine the engagement ring ended up on my ring finger.

Our bodies moved closer until we became a tangle of arms and legs and clothes were quickly being discarded. We made love in front of the fireplace and afterwards I breathlessly answered ‘yes’ (just to make it official).

“Dawson! It’s just like…” I turn to face him, not quite believing he did this yet at the same time knowing it is the totally Dawson thing to do. I should have half expected this. I lean up and kiss him briefly. “This is going to put to shame my gift.”

“I doubt that.” He replies. “I just wish I had been able to get that look on your face on film.”

I roll my eyes and laugh. “You and your damn cameras!”

“Don’t see them now, do you?”

“No.” I reply, before adding. “Unless you’ve hidden one.”

“Well you see Jo…” He begins and I am certain I have a look of surprise on my face. “Your face is a picture right now, again.”

I love that, how he hasn’t lost that ability to say something to surprise me.

I take his hand and lead him towards the couch, ushering him to sit down as I kneel on the sofa, before leaning over it to retrieve the present I bought for him.

“Wine?” He asks holding out a glass and I take it from him before handing him the gift bag containing his gifts. “What’s all this?”

“It’s your gift.” I say as I take a sip of my wine.

“I thought we agreed we weren’t going to do something big this year.”

“What if I decided I wanted to do some things that are small?” I reply shrugging lightly as he opens the gift bag and takes out his first present.

It’s rectangular in shape, is about an inch thick and is wrapped in blue tissue paper. He tears off the paper and smiles when he sees the wooden mahogany picture frame that has a picture of the three of us.

“It’s for your desk in your office at work. See it’s the same wood.” I say and he leans forward and kisses me.

“It’s great.”

“It’s not much.”

“To who?” Dawson asks. “It’s a picture of our family, that’s special enough. And if that isn’t making you feel better it’s the thought that counts.” He squeezes my knee as he quickly kisses me again. “I’m also not forgetting there’s more in here.” He says gesturing to the bag. “And if you feel that hasn’t been enough, I’ll let you work it off.”

“You promise?” I challenge him.

He grins at me and goes back to extracting his gifts from the bag and by the time he’s done he has assembled them on the coffee table. He has leather gloves, the picture in the photo frame, a pack of chocolate covered strawberries (he threw a questioning look at me when he saw those, my reply “I’ll explain in a sec”) and a charcoal gray cotton shirt.

Moving closer to him on the sofa and taking one of his hands I explain. “I wasn’t sure what to get you for our anniversary. So after thinking it over and getting suggestions from a lot of people, I settled for one that Audrey of all people came up with.” I take a sip from my glass. “She said that there were traditional gifts people would buy for someone’s anniversary, depending on how many years they were married. So I decided what to do was to buy you a gift for each year we’d been married. I found this site on the internet that listed both traditional gifts and more conventional gifts and I just combined the two.”

“Very thoughtful. How come there are only four?” He asks eyeing his gifts. “Not that those aren’t sufficient, but last time I checked we’d been married for five years.” He finishes and takes some of his wine.

“There’s one you’ve to get later.” I reply, rolling my eyes at him.

He glances at me intrigued before asking, “So what represents which year?”

“The shirt represents the second year, something cotton. Then the gloves; something leather, your favorite fruit represents the fourth year and for the fifth year, something wooden.”

“What was the first year?” He asks putting down his wine glass before taking mine and doing the same.

“Ha ha, nice try Leery, but finding out isn’t that easy.” I tell him as I lean closer to him, tugging on his collar. “Come here.” I say before I lightly kiss him on the mouth, he suckles on my bottom lip. “I can tell you it’s not made of paper.” I say as we stop kissing.

“There goes my idea that it’s a paper hat.”

“Just what you always wanted.” I respond grinning at him before pulling him towards me for a lingering kiss. I bring my hands up to cup his face. “I love you. You know that right?”

“I often suspected that.” He says and we both laugh. “I know it, just like I know that you know I love you.”

“And I know that you know that I know you love me.” I counter, cheekily sticking my tongue out at him as I place my hands in my lap.

“You want to play that game?” He inquires.

“No. We’ve done enough playing just kiss me already.”

He takes my hands in his and we lean into each other, our lips meeting as they have so many thousand times before. We move closer together, moments later our arms are wrapped around each other and then we hear the introduction to a familiar song. Our song.

Feel your breath on my shoulder
And I know we couldn’t get any closer
I don’t wanna act tough; I just wanna fall in love
As we move into the night I go crazy
Thinking how it’s gonna be with you baby
I don’t wanna play rough I’ve been loving you enough
Oh Baby

We stop kissing and just look at each other and smile as I rest my forehead against Dawson’s. This song has the power to make us replay so many memories within seconds.

“Forever!” We say together.

“I think it’s only fitting we dance to our song.” I tell him as I stand, holding my hands out to him.

He stands and I place my arms around his neck and he puts his around my waist and we start to sway to the music.

“You remember how we danced to this once we were married?” I ask him.

“Like it was yesterday.” He replies kissing the top of my head. “I know that sounds corny but I don’t care. I do.”

“Me too.” I beam up at him. “We should go back there some day; dance where we did before, as the sun set.”

“It’s a date.” He says just before his lips meet mine again and this time we both know it’s not just another kiss. He pulls me closer and I wrap my arms tighter around his neck, seeking more contact.

Dawson nibbles on my ear while slowly unzipping my dress and I start to unbutton his shirt. Once my dress is undone he lowers the straps, I momentarily stop unbuttoning his shirt to ally the straps to slide down my arms and my dress falls onto the floor.

I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you all the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Fill you up, fill you up with love
When we close the door all I need is in your eyes
ooooo I wanna take forever tonight

As I undo the last few buttons on his shirt I see him look at me appreciatively.

“Are you going to use those never before seen moves on me?” He asks as he places one hand on my hip, pulls me closer as his other hand glides over the black lacey bra that covers one of my breasts.

“That all depends.” I reply stepping closer to him as I lay one hand on his shoulder and run the other down his arm. “Maybe you don’t deserve it.”

“Maybe?” He asks as I take a few steps backwards and he follows until we’re in front of the fire, just like we were so many years ago and we both sink to the floor.

“If I didn’t know any better I’d say you planned all of this down to the last detail.” I reply.

“Do you really think I planned it that much?” He smiles as he takes something from his pocket.

“Oh, I think you did!” I laugh.

“Well…” He begins still grinning. “It just fits so well with your gift. I know we said nothing big but, I just couldn’t resist.” He shrugs as he holds something in the palm of his hand. “Did you notice something was missing from your jewelry box?” He asks as he takes one of my hands in his.

Touch my lips, I’m on fire
You’re the only one I’ll ever desire
Turn the light down low, make the world go slow
When I’m holding you tonight it’s so easy
Nothing moves me like you do when you tease me
And to rush would be a crime
I just wanna spend some time with you baby

“Something was missing? No.”

“The necklace you wore the day we got married snapped, do you remember?”

I laugh as I recall how it came to be so. About six months ago Dawson had to go out of town for ten days and by the time he got back we were both feeling very horny. He had barely crossed the threshold by the time I pounced on him and we just started ripping each others clothes off and my chain as well. We ended up making love against the wall in the hallway. I hadn’t the heart to throw the chain away because of when I wore it.

“Well, I decided as opposed to just buying you a new chain, I’d get you something that was less likely to break.” As Dawson finished he opened the palm of his hand, revealing a white gold band with a single diamond. My diamond from the necklace.

“You know you really shouldn’t have!”

“Yeah well…” He laughs. “It’s back in its original state.”

I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever
I’m gonna give you all the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Fill you up, fill you up
Give you all my love tonight
When we close the door all I need is in your eyes
wo ooo- I, wanna take forever tonight

“It’s beautiful.” I say as he puts it on one of my fingers.

“Just like you.” He replies.

“You’re just saying that cause I am half naked.” I tell him as I lean forward to kiss him. “Thank you. I really never expect it.”

“It’s really not much Jo.” He says as he tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “You already had part of it, it’s nowhere near what you got me and besides, it’s not the gifts that matter.”

“So all gifts don’t really matter then?” I ask him grinning and cocking an eyebrow at him as I move forward and wrap my arms around him.

“Hmm, I’m going to have to mull that one over.” He says before capturing my bottom lip with his own.

We continue to kiss, our lips moving together as we both move onto our knees and I start to undo his pants as he takes care of my bra.

And when I’m here beside you
I wanna see what drives you out of your mind (oh baby)
I never wanna leave I only wanna be with you
‘Cause I love how you feel your love is so real

Dawson wraps an arm around my waist and lowers me on to the floor, supporting me with one of his arms as he begins the slow decent down my body with his lips, causing me to writhe and moan. He knows exactly what things make me hold my breath, moan or sigh.

He quickly gets rid of his pants and boxer shorts before he teases me through my panties before removing them and moving up my body again to kiss me on the mouth as he enters me.

oh ya know
I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever (moment forever)
I’m gonna give you all the love that I’ve got
I wanna take forever tonight
Wanna stay in this moment forever (moment forever)
I’m gonna give you all the love that I’ve got
‘Cause I can’t live without you

*Peter Cetera and Crystal Bernard – forever tonight*

He moves inside me, pulling almost all the way out before plunging back in again. He places one hand behind my knee and pulls it towards him, allowing him to push deeper as he moves faster and I feel myself quickly approach the precipice.

As the tension becomes almost too much I quicken the pace at which my hips are rising off of the floor to meet his, while Dawson leans down to kiss my nose, before his lips linger on my mouth.

“Jo…” He manages to whisper and I can tell from looking in his eyes that he’s almost there too.

I wrap one arm around his neck and lift the upper half of my body off of the floor and whisper in his ear, “Love you.” Before I gently bite on it.

A few moments later as I lay back on the floor, I feel myself go over that blissful edge with Dawson’s name spilling from my lips as I do.

Dawson continues to move, in and out and he kisses me again as I start to come down. Within a few minutes he too has reached that peak and as he comes he collapses on top of me as he cries my name into my mouth.

He moves off of me and wraps an arm around my waist and I turn slightly on my side so I can look at him, placing one hand over his heart. Knowing that the reason it beats so fast, the reason he’s all sweaty is because of me.

“You know, that is one of the best ways to end the day...” I tell him as he tries to catch his breath. “…and I have been waiting for that all damn day.” I kiss over where his heart is. “So Dawson, do all gifts not matter?” I ask as I slide on top of his body, wrapping his arms around my back.

“I think the jury may still be out on that one.” He replies kissing me quickly before I rest my head on his chest and move off of him a little so my body is only partially on top of his.

“Sure it is!” I reply looking up at him. “You just don’t want to admit it that you prefer sex to gifts.”

“Only if it’s with you.”

“Nice save Leery!” I tell him as I lay my head back on his chest as we watch the flames in the fire flicker and Dawson starts to draw invisible patterns on my hip and the song ends.
