Scene: - Capeside - The day before the wedding.

Joey is siting on the dock outside Dawson’s just watching the water. Then the scene retreats back and we see Dawson coming out the front door of his parents house. Then the camera goes back to Joey. We then hear Dawson approach, but Joey doesn’t see him.

DAWSON: "Hey Joey" She doesn’t hear him. He then sits down beside her. "Earth to Joey." Still there is no reply. "Am I going to have to push you in to get your attention."

Joey hears this and laughs.

JOEY: "Don’t even think about it Leery or you die!"

DAWSON: "Too late Jo, I already did. So what had your attention? What where you thinking about?"

JOEY: "Oh nothing much."

DAWSON: "It’s me you’re talking to, I know you better than that. I bet you a kiss, that I can tell you what you were thinking about!!"

JOEY: "Really. So if you are right you get a kiss and if you’re wrong, you get a kiss??"

DAWSON: "No Joey, if I’m right I get to give you a kiss and if I’m wrong you get to give me a kiss!!" (She laughs) "Besides Joey, I’m not going to be wrong."

JOEY: "Okay ‘Mister I know what you are thinking’ give it your best shot."

DAWSON (laughing): "Oh don’t worry about that, I will. It wasn’t about me or any last minute worries over the wedding." He looks back to Joey who is looking at the water and giving nothing away. "But it’s about the same thing that you’ve been thinking about for the past few days now. Like on Tuesday morning when you where brushing your hair. Or Wednesday when you where doing the washing up. Or yesterday, when we where in the car driving over to Bessie’s. It’s the exact same thing that you’re thinking about now. Am I right about this so far??"

Joey turns to look at him.

JOEY: "Yes, but what was I thinking about?"

DAWSON: "She can see you, did you know that?? She always would have been able to. Just the same as she’s going to see you tomorrow. Just the same as she’s going to be there with us." By this time Joey’s eyes have started to water. "Joey, just because we can’t see her, doesn’t mean that she’s not there. She was there for high school graduation, college graduation, for all the big events. Just as she’s going to be there the day we have our first child. She’s always with us."

Joey doesn’t say anything but manages a smile through her tears. She then leans forward and kisses Dawson.

JOEY: "Do you really believe that?"

DAWSON: "Oh yeah, with all my heart. I’ve always believed it. So was I right? Because you just kissed me and that was only to happen if I was wrong."

JOEY: "You know you were! So you better kiss me just now since you won" He leans in and kisses her slowly and gently. "Dawson?"

DAWSON: "Yeah?"

JOEY: "She doesn’t have to be there all the time. I mean there are times when I hope she’s not there!"

DAWSON: "Oh and what times are those?"

Joey just glares at him and he starts laughing.

DAWSON: "Oh I’m sure that she’s off watching Bessie and Alex at those times!"

Joey spent the night at Bessie’s and has just gotten out of the shower and goes to have breakfast with Bessie.

BESSIE: "I’m glad that it is just the two of us just now."

JOEY: "Really? Why’s that?"

BESSIE: "Dawson told me about yesterday, you thinking about mom. He’s right you know? About her watching over us! but there’s something else. She would be so proud of you, the way you’ve grown up, gone to college. And you may not know this, but she knew this day would come."

JOEY: "She knew I’d eventually get married?"

BESSIE: "No, she knew you’d eventually get married to Dawson. She had a way of telling these things. I remember a while before she died, you and Dawson where out on your boat, talking and she turned to me and said ‘Do you know sometimes they look like a married couple. The way they just sit talking. Makes you wonder what the wedding is going to be like’."

JOEY: "She really said that?"

BESSIE: "Yeah. She said other things too, she would make comments about the smallest things. The way your faces lit up when the other walked into the room. The note of disappointment in his voice when mum told him you weren’t in. How you’re first thought and words of the day where normally related to Dawson."

JOEY: "What did she think of all that?"

BESSIE: "She thought that even back then, even though you two were so young, that you where in love with each other. It would just be a matter of time."

JOEY: "Do you know that even now, I sometimes can’t believe how much I love him? I mean I know how much I love him, I could never dispute that. But I never realised that you could love someone so much and actually see your love in them when you looked in their eyes."

BESSIE: "That’s what makes it so special because not everyone finds what you two have."

JOEY: "I actually thought that I wouldn’t get to sleep last night."

BESSIE: "Because you’re so excited?"

JOEY: "Even though I am excited that’s not it. Last night is the first night that we’ve spent apart since Dawson came back from LA."

BESSIE: "I didn’t realise that you two had moved in together."

JOEY: "That’s the thing, we hadn’t moved in together. We’d stay at his for a few days and then at mine for a few days. Or we’d alternate nights. Even when we where out with friends. There where plenty of nights where I’d go back to his after being out with the girls until two in the morning. I’d just let myself in and crawl in beside him. And he’d do the same out with the lads and come back to mine. Or I’d go home to my place and he’d already be there, sleeping."

BESSIE: "So it kind of feels like someone has cut the cord?"

JOEY: "Yeah. Won’t be letting that happen again. So when are you getting Bodie up, coz I want Bodie pancakes?"

BESSIE: "And to think I was going to make you some?"

JOEY: "Please, do you want me to make it to this wedding?"
