Trance Rave DJ
My name is Gilbert Valentine. I was born and raised in New York, of latin heritage, and influenced by late 60's Motown and early 70's Rock era. It was in the late 70's, during the peak of the Disco era, that I decide to become a DJ. While studying Electronics and Audio-Visual Communications in college, I started performing freelance work for local radio stations and dance clubs. In 1982, I was awarded with 3rd place in the 2nd Annual P.R. DJ Competition, and given "Honorable Mention" for my mixing skills, by the previous year's champion, Mr. Pablo Flores(recording / producer / remixer for Gloria Estefan and Jennifer Lopez).
I currently work in the Hotel Industry as an audio-visual technician, and operate my mobile DJ Service Company. I have DJ'd as opening act and intermissions for reknown artists such as K.C. & The Sunshine Band, and The Village People. Besides various other tropical latin bands, I also performed in the press conference for the record and film release of latin pop star, Chayanne (star of the film "Dance with Me", featuring Vanessa Williams), among other various corporate convention events for companies such as M.T.V., H.B.O., Marchon Eye Wear,Matrix Hair Products,and Saks Fith Ave. at hotels such as Wyndhams' El Conquistador Resort, The Condado Plaza, The San Juan Caribe Hilton, The San Juan Grand, and Westin's Rio Mar. Most recently I performed as guest DJ on a local television program, called "Frente Sonico" wich airs monday nights on chanel seven, and some dance clubs, like Club X-treme, Ambis Club, and Maroma Club, plus a few commercial Electronic Music events in Puerto Rico, (most commonly known as "Raves") such as "The DJ show Down 1 & 2", "Slippery When Wet 2", and "Summer Jam Pool Party 2" .
Music
I play various dance music styles, but, my favorite musical style is "Trance". "Trance" is fast paced, electronic music, somewhat related to "Techno" and "House". It has it's origins during the early 90's, in eastern Europe. I find "Trance' to be a relaxing and uplifting experience because of it's melodic synths, deep bass lines, and high energy drum beats.
"Trance" is becoming more popular in the U.S., and around the world. Even, at the Miami Winter Music Conference, it's been said that "Trance" is the music of the new millenium.
Objectives
In my leisure time, I work on a recording project which consists of an album containing 10 or so, dance tracks, with styles such as "House", "Trance", "Techno", and 'Drum & Bass", all original material, composed and arranged by me. I plan to market this product to some record companies, not only to make profit, but, mainly, to promote myself as a reknown DJ/Producer, obtain a residency at a prestigious dance club, and travel abroad, playing the music I deeply love.
