Well, I finally did it....I've joined the Masonic Order!
My grandfather was a Mason, as well as my great grandfather. However, the man who influenced me the most was Paul Buskirk. He kept telling me that I would love it, but I kept putting it off.  When he was sick and in a hospital bed he told me to "just do it", and gave me one of the secret grips that Masons use, which made me feel how important it was to him for me to join. Paul passed away on March 16th, 2002. The interesting coincidence is that I recieved my acceptance call on March 16th 2003. It just happened that way. (thanks Paul)
If you are interested, just ask a Mason .
The procedure is simple:
     1. you petition to join (like a job application)
     2. you are visited by three Masons (just to make sure that you are on the level)
     3. they vote on you
     4. then you get initiated (the first degree)
     5. then do some work to pass the 2nd and 3rd degrees required to be a Master
         Mason......
All that is required is that you are male over 21yrs., and that you believe in a supreme being. It is not religion specific. That is why Freemasonry is far from being a cult or religion. All religions are accepted.
The rules of the lodge are that we do not dicuss religion or politics........simple.

As you learn more about freemasonry, you'll notice the influence it has had in American history, as well as often heard phrases. Here are some examples:
"Are you on the level?" or to say that someone "is on the level." A reference to being honest or just, as symbolized by the level.
To give someone "the third degree" is a reference to the third degree that makes someone a Master Mason. It is a tough one!
A "square deal" refers to the square, which symbolizes accuracy, integrity and rightness.

An old brass Square was found under the foundation of an ancient bridge near Limerick, in 1830. On it was inscribed the date, 1517, and the following words:
"Strive to live with love and care
Upon the Level, by the Square."
