AUTHENTICITY Above all, I think I try to be authentic. If I am going to do something, I do it all the way, no fake, no pretense, no act. Just me, real and open and true. The real article.

BENEVOLENCE I know, sounds a little bit cheesy, I guess, because we don't use that word so much any more in our society. Do you wonder why? The dictionary defines benevolence as the desire to do good to others. I strive for benevolence in every waking moment.

CREATIVITY Broken down, creativity is the nature of creation. I find very little as beautiful as the concept of creation in every day life. What are you creating with yourself? OF yourself? For yourself? What are you creating for other people? My hope is to be in a permanent, dynamic state of creation...and what I am creating is something that can only be identified years afterward when you look in the eyes of my student or my child or my friend. That is the most exciting kind of creation.

DYNAMIC The word dynamic sounds so much like an adjective to our ears, because that is the way we are accustomed to hearing it used. However, if you think of it as a noun, it signifies something a bit different... the dynamic of something is it's place in an ever-changing motion, or perhaps the range of that motion. I believe the human spirit is perfectly dynamic, ever-changing within a range of amazing possibilities. I hope to capture that sense of motion, or progress, each day of my life.

ENERGY People have always described me as an energetic person. I have even been referred to as the energizer bunny before. It is a part of my character which I appreciate, enjoy and am grateful for. I try to feed my energy, and if I find a good source, I tap into it. My students reflect back so much energy to me, even as they are demanding and draining it from me. This flow of energy, I believe, gives me vitality and makes my soul vibrant. I share energy with every person I am in contact with, and I hope that energy can be positive as often as is possible.

HONESTY Sometimes people, myself included, use the word BRUTAL behind this honesty when describing me. I am honest to a fault, an open book... and you NEVER need wonder where you stand with me because I tell you point blankly. I don't talk about people behind their backs, but rather I face them head-on with my opinions. I can be tactless and sometimes even seemingly cruel. But you should know that my intentions are never cruelty, only honesty. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

INSPIRATION This is, I suppose, one of my higher goals. To inspire...and to be truly inspired by something. I try to give this gift of vision to each person who is near me, and I find vision and inspiration in so many simple things. We are surrounded by the material of inspiration, if we are willing to look for it and grasp it...hold it close to us and form a fantastic-realistic sphere for our creative souls.

JOURNEY It is about the journey...never a destination. Because without the journey, the destination has no point. I believe the PURPOSE of the goal is to get us on the journey, and it is THAT which teaches us, refines us, inspires us, lifts us higher. There is a journey inside every beautiful mortal second, if we but open ourselves to the present experience of it. We must put off our tendencies to dwell in the future or the past, and simply feel what IS at this second. This step of the journey.

KNOWLEDGE This is the stuff we fill our brains with every time we open and close our eyes, read, converse, write, experience... and it is so much fun! The prospect of having one infinite container to take any single thing we could possibly have been exposed to, and having it inseparable from our soul, woven into it inextricably... well, I rather enjoy the idea of filling that container with every piece of valuable knowledge I can.
