THE VALANCE

Heaven's behind a window,
That's clear for me to see.
I need not lay my eyes upon it,
To know it's right in front of me.

There's only one way through the window,
And it's Christ who holds the key.
Loved ones before me have passed through it,
At times I feel they keep watch over me.

Some deny the window,
No light can breach their curtains thick.
They've locked their hearts unto the Savior,
The window's now a wall of bricks.

Some await the window,
At the end of life's long road.
Yet eternity begins this moment,
And need not wait for Heaven's abode.

Some search for God in big things,
Like a blazing comet burning bright,
Yet fail to see Him in the small things,
Like a billion stars out every night.

Some see the face of Jesus
In a smudgy window viewed just right.
Yet to share His love with others
Is just too far beyond their sight.

To me the window's fully open,
A valance ripples in the breeze.
His Spirit binds me to His kingdom,
And because of Christ, in me He's pleased.

At times I wander from the window,
And toward the darkness start to roam.
But the Shepherd always comes to find me,
And guide me safely to His home.
