SUPERFORTRESS (CASTLE IN THE SKY)
A warm breeze comes through my window,
Outside the birds begin to sing.
Oh what a joy to now awaken
Before the bells of morning ring.
The springtime flowers are all blooming,
A baby bird prepares to soar.
It’s so hard for me to fathom,
That our country’s now at war.
The smell of breakfast fills the mess hall,
Today it’s bacon, eggs, and toast.
And though I adore Antonio’s cooking,
It’s eating with my friends I love the most.
There’s Jimmy from Ohio,
He’s the new kid in our crew.
Yet he saved near half the squadron,
On the last mission that we flew.
Mack seems to have his facts straight,
But I'm afraid he's got the name all wrong.
If this thing is called a briefing,
Why does he ramble on so long?
Any easy mission?
That’s easy for him to say.
While we’re the enemy’s target,
He’ll be back at base all day!
Dropping bombs on Gerry
Is not my view of Peace on Earth.
Yet butchering sons of Israel
Has got to be a whole lot worse.
LORD guide us on our mission,
And let our aim be true.
For twelve thousand feet above the city,
A munitions factory looks just like a school.
From high above these mountains,
A lovely castle now I see.
Could this be the house of mansions,
Where He’s prepared a place for me?
I think we’ve reached the city,
Though it’s veiled by smoky sheath.
With these explosions all around us,
It’s hard to see what’s down beneath.
Our Belle’s been hit, her wings are gone,
Now she’s just a hurling crate.
We’re plummeting toward that neighborhood,
And we still have our deadly freight.
A hospital, church, and grocery store,
For I moment I was scared.
But we’ll explode out in that vacant field,
Thank God for answered prayers!
