MISSING MAN

I gazed up to the sky in wonder,
As I heard the sound of rumbling thunder,
And marveled at the glorious sight
Of freedom’s guardian angels taking flight.

In tight formation they passed overhead,
And stole my joy and left me dread.
For within their midst I saw the hole,
Paying homage to a fallen soul.

Long ago artillery pounded,
And struck his plane and left him grounded.
That’s how their son became the missing man.

Imagining his death so violent,
And how his wings have fallen silent,
My heart wept for the missing man.

Staring at that empty slot,
The man who for our freedom fought,
I gave thanks for the missing man.

Then pondering the empty tomb,
Tremendous joy replaced my doom.
Sent to earth, the Father’s perfect plan,
I thanked God for the Missing Man.

And next I saw a brilliant light,
From above the clouds it came in flight.
It joined the planes and filled their void ---
God’s guardian angel, down to earth deployed!

The Son of Man our freedom bought,
So like that airman, dead we’re not.
Sent to earth, true God true man,
I thank Him for His perfect plan.
