The Philippines
The Philippines is located in Southeast Asia and is composed of over 7000 islands containing over 170 mammalian species, most of which are endemic to the Philippines.

Of these 170 mammals, only 3 are primates.  The Philippine tarsier, once considered the smallest primate (a moniker now placed on the mouse lemur of Madagascar), resides only on the islands located in the Southern Philippines.   All other species of tarsier reside in Indonesia.

The forests of the Philippines have been decimated by logging with as little as 2% of the original forest remaining.  Particularly vulnerable are the coastal lowland tropical forests that are home to tarsier and most of the human population as well.
